KC Shepherd's Center (KCSC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created in 1972 to empower older adults to live healthy, engaged and independent lives. Meals on Wheels (MOW) is More Than a Meal ™.  We are committed to providing nutritious home delivered meals, personal connection, support and other safety-net services to homebound older adults.  The successful candidate will bring a passion for the mission and a genuine interest in working with older adults. The MOW Delivery Driver will be flexible, possess strong organizational skills, be a team player, and be able to adapt to changes in a rapidly growing program by prioritizing daily assignments.  Tolerance to extremes of heat and cold weather is necessary. On occasion, will perform work or travel outside normal business hours, such as evenings and weekends. KCSC’s MOW program provides essential services to our neighbors in the KC Metro.  As a result, all MOW employees can be required to report to work during local public health, weather, or other environmental emergencies to ensure older adults receive regular nutritious meals. There may be some occasions when the use of your personal vehicle might be required.  You will be reimbursed per IRS standard mileage rates. 

This position reports to the Director of Meals on Wheels
Part-time, Hourly / Exempt

Core Areas of Responsibility:

  • The position will deliver frozen meal boxes in an agency vehicle and/or occasionally daily hot meals in a personal vehicle.
  • Office responsibilities will include data entry, filing, returning phone calls and others as assigned.
  • Occasional supervision of hot meal program at a local church. Oversee the delivery and repacking of catered meals into thermal bags that are delivered to our clients daily Monday - Friday by volunteers.  This responsibility will be shared with other staff members.  This rotation will be 1-2 days most weeks

Qualifications / Competencies:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of maintaining health and sanitation standards preferred
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with multidisciplinary project skills
  • Ability to professionally represent MOW. Exercise good decision making skills and be able to respond calmly and appropriately to all on-the-job situations, including emergencies
  • Commitment to engagement in diversity, equality and inclusion work; willing and able to relate to individuals from all ethnic, racial, religious or socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment and to work independently with limited regular supervision
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all client, staff, volunteer and business-related information
  • Ability to adapt quickly to frequent changes in daily routine and to accept and execute assignments other than delivering meals
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including very occasional evenings and weekends
  • Participate in all organizational or program specific events, trainings, and meetings
  • Other duties as required or assigned
Specific Job Skills:
  • Proven ability to drive organization’s refrigerated vans safely, required
  • Proven successful delivery driving experience, required
  • Customer Service experience, required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs
  • Some data entry experience

Licenses and certifications:
  • Valid Food Handler’s Card or the ability to obtain within 14 days of employment, required
  • Clean driving record, required
  • Class E valid driver’s license, required within 30 days.
  • CPR/First Aid, required. within 90 days
  • HIPAA Certification, required – Provided through Mid-America Regional Council (MARC)
  • Mandated Reporter Training, required – Provided through MARC
  • Elder Abuse Training, required – Provided through MARC
Contingency of Employment:
  • Acceptable criminal history background check
  • Current Motor Vehicle Insurance
