Refugee Employment Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: Successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings by promoting early self-sufficiency of employable refugees. Responsible for client services related to job readiness including assessments, orientations, and supportive service requests. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support the program by promoting the achievement of self-sufficiency for participants soon after arrival into the United States
  • Receive referrals for refugee clients in need of Employment Services, Job Search Assistance, or Job Upgrade
  • Make appropriate referrals for services to remove employment barriers
  • Regularly communicate with Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Kansas State Office of Refugee (KSOR) regarding compliance and employment updates
  • Provide job search coaching, employment counseling, and interview preparation for clients enrolled in Refugee Employment Services Program
  • Maintain and develop partnerships with employers and other community organizations in the KCK area as well as in remote cities of our 21-country service area
  • Complete applications and other paperwork as needed on behalf of clients
  • Train and supervise volunteers within department as needed
  • Report all activities in a timely manner per grant guidelines
  • Collect documentation for job placements, placement follow up, and retention
  • Transport clients to and from interviews and orientations, provide bus training when necessary
    • Ensure clients have adequate transportation to and from work, either by public transportation, by driving themselves, or setting up carpool with other clients/employees
  • Maintain accurate and complete personal data of participants in case files with essential information on all services rendered in a timely fashion
  • Complete case notes and documentation on a weekly and monthly basis in the data management systems used by CCNEK

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate a passion for the mission of Catholic Charities
  • Must be willing to perform by the agency’s values: love, patience, kindness, faithfulness, self- control and joy
  • Catholic Charities promotes a diverse workforce. Employees are not required to be Catholic, however, employees of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas must understand that they are a visible representative of the Archdiocesan Church and as such will not publicly oppose the teachings of the Catholic Faith nor publicly advocate for any position in conflict with Catholic teaching, or the specific positions of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas or the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. This requirement includes any public speech, demonstration, or writing including the use of social media or other digital technologies
  • Must complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment that is very diverse
  • 1+ year of experience working with limited or non-English speakers preferred
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have dependable transportation, current vehicle insurance, and a verified safe driving record
  • Must be able to pass DOT screening. (required if driving an agency vehicle requiring DOT certification)
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form in English
 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, standing, bending and moving
  • Must have the physical ability to complete assignments in a variety of environments: homes of those we serve, extreme heat, humidity, dust, smoke, pet contamination, cleaning supplies, etc.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, accommodations provided when needed.
  • Must be able/willing to visits work sites and employers within various industries
  • Must have the physical ability to make visits to a variety of environments that may include walking on rough terrain and climbing stairs
  • Must have physical ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Must have the physical ability and appropriate licensure for driving
