Start the Arts this Saturday at Kansas City Public Library’s Plaza Branch!

KANSAS CITY, MO, January 3, 2019: As part of Charlotte Street Foundation’s Neighborhood Artists Residency and in partnership with Kansas City Public Library, Start the Arts is hosting its first quarterly event free to the community this Saturday, January 5th. There will be spoken word, music, live painting, culinary art, an interactive art room for children, and more. Start the Arts hopes to highlight how creativity through artistic expression, community engagement and entrepreneurship is a viable solution to confront violence and trauma. The event is free and open for all ages, meaning this is a very family friendly event. There will be programming throughout the day catered to not only adults but also children.
 
The event takes place from 11 AM to 3 PM at Kansas City Public Library's Plaza Branch (located at 4801 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64112).

Expressions Without Weapons
The Recipe Poetry Guild is a powerful dramatic arts and rhythm duo that fuses dramatic interpretation with spoken word. They will be delivering a socially conscious message highlighting the impact of self-discipline through performance art. Participants will take part in T'ai Ch'i and poetry.
 
12:00 PM - 12:45 PM
Bigger Than Me
Michael Robinson-Summers is a published author and motivational speaker who uses his life experiences as inspiration and encouragement to others. Through countless trials and tribulations ranging from the penal system, addiction and financial hardships, this author will share his Bigger Than Me transformation in a discussion. The discussion will focus on the mindset and manifestation of motivation.
 
1:00 PM - 1:45 PM
Knife and Herb Class
Culinary artist, personal chef and ridiculously good caterer, Bonafyde G will be sharing his life experiences through his culinary art. This segment will focus on the self-discipline required to master proper knife techniques and herb fusions over light refreshments. 
 
2:00 PM - 2:45 PM
Live From The Basement
Joey Sunday is a self-published musical artist and entrepreneur who will showcase the importance of self-discipline through music. Whether it be hip-hop, boom bap, jazz fusion or sample based blues theme music, this sonic experience will give you a new perspective of audiovisual. 
 
2:45 PM - 3:00 PM
Art Raffle
Throughout the day, you can enter for your chance to win a raffle! Live painting, great conversation and a burning anticipation to win the raffle will be present from 11 AM to 2:45 PM in the Alcove room. At 2:45 PM, the announcement will be made as supporters get ready to leave for the day.
