SUMMARY:Let's Connect: Equity in Action - Individuals
DESCRIPTION:Many nonprofits serve historically marginalized and under resourced communities. That's one of the many reasons why our sector requires a deeper focus on diversity\, equity\, and inclusion. Fortunately\, Kansas City is home to multiple nonprofit leaders who are skilled at putting equity at the center of their work\, and we have a fantastic opportunity to learn with them in this interactive discussion. \n\n\n\nDuring this session\, you'll learn from individuals who were nominated for the Equity in Action Award at the 2021 Philanthropy Awards Luncheon. We've celebrated their accomplishments and now it's time to take a peek behind the curtain to understand what happened behind the scenes so that we can apply those learnings to our own organizations. \n\n\n\nIn the second part of the session\, we'll move into breakout rooms to encourage small group discussion and networking. You will have the opportunity to share your perspective\, ask questions\, and gain insight from your nonprofit peers. \n\n\n\nThis is a program of the Let's Connect: Virtual Discussion Series. \n\nSpeakers:\n\n\n\nNonprofit professionals know how turn obstacles into opportunities and make lemonade out of lemons. Join several 2021 Philanthropy Awards Nominees to hear how these individuals develop and practice their outstanding commitment to equity. More than a recap of their awards submission\, these speakers will share a behind-the-scenes peek at what it takes to put equity into action.\n\n\n\nDeidre Anderson is the Chief Executive Officer of United Inner City Services (UICS) in Kansas City\, Missouri. UICS delivers high quality\, arts integrated early childhood services to nearly 300 children annually. UICS has operated St. Mark Child and Family Development Center (St. Mark Center) in the 12th St. corridor for many years and recently opened two new facilities\, Metro Child Center on 39th and Troost and North Center in Pleasant Valley Missouri.\n\n\n\nTenagashaw (Tena) Tiruneh is currently the Programs Director at Heart to Heart International (HHI)\, a not-for-profit headquartered in Lenexa\, Kansas\, USA. HHI works to strengthen communities through improving health access\, providing humanitarian development\, and administering crisis relief worldwide. Tena leads the programs department's effort with HHI overseeing program initiatives from installing point-of-care testing capabilities in member clinics of the National Associations of Free and Charitable Clinics. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou!\n\nYour active participation is highly encouraged. No one has all of the solutions\, but everyone has something worth contributing. Your small group discussion participation will help others share\, grow\, and learn. \n\nLet's Connect: Virtual Discussion Series\n\nWhat's the best way to stay connected?
