Organizations\, particularly nonprofits that serve historically marginalized and under resourced communities\, have an important role to play in creating a more just society. In this interactive session\, you'll hear from organizations that are leading the way in putting equity at the center of their work and gain new skills and insights into increasing equity at your organization. \n\n\n\nDuring this session\, you'll learn from organizations who were nominated for the Equity in Action Award at the 2021 Philanthropy Awards Luncheon. We've celebrated their accomplishments and now it's time to take a peek behind the curtain to understand what happened behind the scenes so that we can apply those learnings to our own organizations. \n\n\n\nIn the second part of the session\, we'll move into breakout rooms to encourage small group discussion and networking. In addition to his role with Second\, he serves as the adjunct instructor for the Marketing Communications for Nonprofit Organizations course at the University of Kansas.\n\n\n\nKiona Sinks by trade is a social and civic innovator setting the standard for how young leaders should model in action community engagement\, bringing forward generations of all sectors of professions to change the perspective on what community activism should model in our modern day world. Currently\, Kiona serves as Community Engagement Manager + Digital Marketing Strategy for the Negro LeaguesBaseball Museum in Kansas City\, Missouri.\n\n\n\nMelanie Miller is the Chief Executive Officer for Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey (KCFAA)\, a non-profit organization established in 1984 with a mission to make dance accessible to all. She joined the KCFAA staff in 2019. Melanie has been heavily involved in the philanthropic realm and currently serves on the board for the Charlotte Street Foundation and is Co-Chair of the Arts Facet for the Greater Kansas City (MO) Links\, Incorporated and a member of the Arts & Letters Committee for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority\, Incorporated.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou!\n\nYour active participation is highly encouraged.
