About Us
Through education, grantmaking and healthcare access programs, AcruxKC contributes to the health and quality-of-life of individuals across the Kansas City region.
Since 2005, AccessKC (formerly KC Medicine Cabinet) has collaborated with social services agencies to help people with low incomes access health care. AccessKC is a voucher-based program that covers 100% of the cost of emergency dental care, durable medical goods, hearing aids, prescriptions, and eye exams and glasses. In 2023, AccessKC partners with 35 non-profits (54 sites) on both sides of the state line, seven area domestic violence shelters, and Cancer Action. This year, AccessKC will pay $1.5MM for 4,750 services for 4,000 people. In 2022, 2,365 people (14 counties) benefitted from 2,642 services valued at $870,000, including $23,000 to aid 96 clients of Cancer Action and $23,500 to help161 adult and child domestic violence survivors.
In 2023, AcruxKC awarded $200,000 in scholarships to 40 students enrolled at 20 nursing schools through the Trinity Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae and LA Hollinger Respiratory/Nursing scholarships. The annual Orear medical conference highlights recent advances in clinical medicine. The Stelmach fund provides education opportunities to family practice residents. Since 2017, $1.2MM in Legacy Grants for Student Health have improved school communities through programs and purchases that address students' physical and/or mental health needs. New in 2023, Legacy Grants for Behavioral Health will expand two safety net clinics' capacity to provide mental health services.
