About Us
KC STEM Alliance was founded in 2011 to connect the many STEM education and workforce initiatives in our community. The alliance supports leading in-school and out-of-schools STEM programs, increases access to STEM activities in underserved communities and invites community collaboration by leading regional STEM initiatives. The mission of the KC STEM Alliance is to develop a collaborative network of educators, business partners and affiliates that inspires interest in STEM careers to generate a robust force of related professionals for our community. KC STEM Alliance is the lead partner in the STEM Learning Ecosystem initiative and works to leverage the investment by the Kauffman Foundation and many corporate and post-secondary partners to engage more youth in STEM education.
The two primary programs that the KC STEM Alliance support directly are:
Project Lead The Way, a nationally recognized K-12 STEM curriculum now available in almost all KC-area public schools districts and many private/charter schools. KC STEM Alliance supports PLTW by providing professional development, industry connections and student competitions and scholarships.
FIRST robotics offers mentor-based after school programs starting in kindergarten building to the high school-level FIRST Robotics Competition. The program combines the rigor of science with the excitement of sports to engage students in STEM. KC STEM Alliance is the contracted partner to manage, staff and cover all costs associated with FIRST events and competitions in the Greater Kansas City region.
