About Us

The Lyric Opera of Kansas City was founded in 1958 by Russell Patterson. In 55 years the Company has produced numerous works including three world premiere operas. In the fall of 1998, the Company began performing operas in the original language, a tradition which continues today.

The Company currently produces four performances of four productions per season at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts located at 1601 Broadway in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The state-of-the-art theatre, designed by the creative minds behind the innovative Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, is one of the greatest in the world.

The Company is based at the Richard J. Stern Opera Center located in the East Crossroads area of downtown Kansas City at 1725 Holmes St. The Opera Center includes the Beth Ingram Administration Building, where the Company's offices are based above a 4000 sq. ft. area for set storage, and the Michael and Ginger Frost Production Arts Building, housing space for rehearsals, set construction and painting, prop storage, costume shop, and vocal coaching rooms.
