About Us

Since 1983, Metropolitan Energy Center is a charitable nonprofit whose mission is to create resource efficiency, environmental health and economic vitality in Mid-America.

Our work is to encourage business and government agencies to adopt measures and technology that reduce energy use and/or diversify energy sources. We work with both building/facilities and fleet operations, and provide information, technical assistance and consulting services, sometimes including relevant technical trainings.

Outcomes include economic development, energy security and environmental stewardship.

Our principle targets are business and local government agencies in Kansas and Missouri, but we occasionally work on a regional or even national scope through partnerships.

As a designated coalition in the U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities program, KC Clean Cities has access to a massive network of alternative fuel fleets and industry experts. Our apprentice coalition, Central Kansas Clean Cities, provides services to the rest of the state, also with access to the same network.

Our newest program, Energy Solutions Hub, continues the work of Kansas City's historic City Energy Project, supporting the City's energy efficiency benchmarking ordinance, and providing education, resource matchmaking and peer learning opportunities to business and government building operators and managers throughout the KC metro.
