Saturday STEM Seminar - 'Platelets: A Cellular Peephole for Brain Biology.' Presented by Dr. Abdulbaki Agbas.
Our Fall/Spring Saturday STEM Seminars offer a fantastic and FREE chance to get introduced to the diverse world of STEM careers and professionals. Held about once a month, this series aims to expose students and public alike to cutting-edge topics in science and showcase the career paths taken by an array of STEM experts - from aerospace engineers to forensic specialists. As an added incentive, at the end of each semester, the Kansas City area educator who sends the most students to our seminars (for some extra credit hopefully!) will be awarded a special prize!
Platelets provide useful information about brain biology and biochemistry, which can be utilized for assessing the progress of neurodegenerative diseases. This presentation will serve as a guided tour of platelets; exploring them from the standpoint of simple curiosity to medical discoveries.?
