About The Dogwood House

The Dogwood House is a faith-based nonprofit in the Kansas City metro focused on providing transitional housing and independent living support for women rebuilding their lives after trafficking, exploitation, and trauma.

Our mission is to create a safe, dignified place where women can continue moving forward after completing long-term recovery programs — bridging the gap between recovery and full independence.

We are currently building a strong founding Board of Directors composed of experienced, mission-driven leaders who are passionate about restoration, strategic growth, and sustainable impact.


Position Overview

The Secretary serves as a key governance and organizational leader of the Board of Directors, helping ensure strong documentation, communication, and board operations.

As a founding board leader, the Secretary will help establish organizational systems, governance practices, and foundational board structure for the organization.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and organized leader who is passionate about helping build a mission-driven nonprofit with long-term community impact.


Responsibilities

  • Record and maintain accurate board meeting minutes
  • Assist with board meeting coordination and documentation
  • Maintain organizational and governance records
  • Support board communication and meeting preparation
  • Help ensure organizational compliance and documentation standards
  • Assist with board policies and governance procedures
  • Collaborate with Board leadership and the Executive Director on organizational operations

Ideal Experience

Preferred candidates may have experience in:

  • Administrative or organizational leadership
  • Nonprofit governance or board service
  • Legal, compliance, or operational support roles
  • Documentation and records management
  • Strong written communication and organizational skills

Prior board experience is strongly preferred.


Expectations

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend regular board meetings
  • Serve as active ambassadors for the organization
  • Participate in fundraising and strategic growth efforts
  • Make an annual personal financial contribution
  • Support the mission and values of The Dogwood House
