Job Title: Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Department: Lifespan Service Team
Reports to: Amanda Myers, Director of Employment Services
Type of position: Part-time

Position Overview:

A Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides essential, personalized support to individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual or developmental disabilities, focused on fostering independence, community integration, and personal well-being. DSPs support the development of independent living skills, promote self-determination and choice, facilitate social communication and emotional regulation, and foster health and wellness in community and work settings, and within services at Down Syndrome Innovations. This is a collaborative position, working in close partnership with the full-time service providers to ensure all aspects of services are well-coordinated within our organization and that we are improving the quality of life of the participants we serve.

Direct Support Professional (DSP)  responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Work under the direction of the Down Syndrome Innovations full-time staff facilitating programs or events.
  • Willing to assist with all programs for all age levels including, but not limited to the following: adult evening programming, ACE program, teen programs and groups, employment services, children’s programs and group sessions.
  • Provide direction and supervision on-site and in the community.
  • Transport individuals to and from community outings and/or job sites.
  • Provide support as needed to ensure full participation of participants at family connection or fundraising events.
  • Assist with evening and weekend events as available and requested.
  • Teach individuals with Down syndrome the skills and behaviors to improve independence and socialization.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect dignity of participants.
  • Follow Down Syndrome Innovations’ policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain an up-to-date timecard.
 
Preferred Skills and Experience In At Least One Of The Following Areas: 
  • Instructing and facilitating adult continuing education classes
  • Job coaching individuals in the community
  • Leading programmed workouts and ensuring client safety
  • Supporting positive behaviors and emotional regulation in group settings
  • Creating and facilitating teen groups
  • Supporting organizational events
 
Qualifications:
  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Clear background check required.
  • Minimum number of hours will be assigned by supervisor and required.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience working with individuals with Down syndrome is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with a demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Confirmed experience making a positive contribution to work culture (per references).
  • Valid Driver’s License.
 
Additional Information:
  • Hiring for multiple DSPs (Part-Time for daytime, evening, or weekend hours)
  • Wage is $16-18 per hour depending on experience
