Work Schedule: The typical work week is forty (40) hours. During periods of high activity (i.e., during OBR deployments and events), the position may require working during evenings and weekends. This position requires travel.  Throughout the year, you can be required to travel for up to 14 consecutive days.  Travel is a mandatory requirement of having this position. 
 
Position Summary: The Grant Funding Specialist will identify and apply for various grants that meet the organization’s needs, overseeing the grant application process from beginning to end. This position is a key member of the fundraising team and will fundraise outside of grants including major gifts, while working on new sponsorships through mutual connections. This role is pivotal in enabling the nonprofit to deliver critical feeding services after disasters and support veterans through camps and related programming.
 
Essential Functions:

  • Research and identification of funding opportunities: Systematically locate and assess government, corporate, and foundation grants relevant to disaster response, feeding programs, and veterans services.
  • Grant proposal development: Write, edit, and submit persuasive grant applications and supporting documents tailored to each funder’s requirements, emphasizing the impact on disaster response and veterans served through camp programs.
  • Program collaboration: Work with program and leadership teams to develop and package initiatives that are eligible and appealing for grant funding, ensuring grant objectives align with organizational goals.
  • Relationship management: Cultivate and sustain relationships with funders and key stakeholders to facilitate ongoing opportunities and compliance.
  • Grant compliance and reporting: Monitor grant deadlines, prepare post-award reports, and ensure the organization meets all deliverables and funding requirements.
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain detailed grant files and databases for tracking proposals, awards, deadlines, and correspondence.
  • Strategic contribution: Participate in planning meetings to help prioritize funding needs, align proposal strategies, and keep updated with emerging opportunities.
  • Professional development: Stay current with trends in disaster relief funding, veteran support grants, and philanthropic grantmaking.
  • Research various types of grants available and the criteria to qualify for each.
  • Discuss available sources of funding with supervisor.
  • Compile necessary information for the application process through collaboration with other employees, database research, and other factfinding actions and meetings.
  • Draft and complete grant applications according to application requirements.
  • Ensure grant is submitted on time and within application parameters.
  • Complete all documents, forms, or reports required by the grant.
  • Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects that are funded by grants.
  • Develop and maintain master files on grants and paperwork connected to programs funded by grants.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with organization/foundation to increase grant success.
  • Work with the team to fundraise for Camp OBR and other special projects/events.
  • Keep all activity on a company shared drive
  • Gather grantor feedback for all grants, awarded or lost, providing updates for supervior.
  • Complete administrative tasks including, but not limited to, expense submissions, paperwork, forms, company-assigned trainings, and document reviews.
  • Work with supervisor to complete employee evaluations as assigned.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferred.
  • Previous experience with grant writing in nonprofit settings, preferrably those with disaster relief or veteran-focused programs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time. This is a largely sedentary role, however some standing or walking may be required.
