Work Schedule: The typical work week is forty (40) hours. During periods of high activity (i.e., during OBR deployments, camps and events), the position may require working during evenings and weekends. This position requires travel. Throughout the year, you may be required to travel for up to 14 consecutive days.

Position Summary:
The Camp OBR Director is responsible for the strategic planning, daily operations, and overall success of Camp OBR’s programs and guest experiences. This leadership role oversees all programming, personnel, and property management in coordination with various Operation BBQ Relief departments to ensure a world-class, safe, and meaningful experience for all attendees. The Director of Camp OBR is responsible for Camp OBR (referred to as the “Camp” moving forward) program planning and day to day operations. This position works closely with multiple departments to plan, promote and execute Camp experiences and events.
 
The Director will embody and promote the values of “The OBR Way”—a culture rooted in compassion, excellence, service, and integrity.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Integrate all aspects of the OBR way into day-to-day operations, mentoring and developing the department on the OBR Way.
  • Supervise up to 5 personnel as a Director.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff as needed.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations for personnel assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the vision and long-term strategy for Camp OBR programming, ensuring alignment with Operation BBQ Relief’s mission in coordination with the Sr. Director of Heroes Enrichment Programs.
  • Develop and implement seasonal plans and annual programming schedules.
  • Design and oversee meaningful retreat experiences for a variety of audiences.
  • Serve as on-site leader and host during camp events, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere
  • Oversee daily operations of the camp including schedules, meals, lodging, and activities
  • Coordinate logistics including transportation, culinary, and program flow.
  • Supervise all on-site activities and guest experiences.
  • Manage registration, accommodations, and special requests.
  • Collaborate with external facilitators and professionals to deliver programs.
  • Supervise seasonal staff, and volunteers.
  • Lead training, orientation, and team development for camp personnel in coordination with the Sr. Director of Heroes Enrichment Programs.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and compliance with health and safety protocols.
  • Partner with the Program Manager to ensure facilities are safe, clean, and ready.
  • Develop and manage the Camp OBR annual operating budget in coordination with the Sr. Director of Heroes Enrichment Programs.
  • Design, promote and execute Camp experiences that align with Operation BBQ Relief goals and objectives.
  • Support fundraising and grant initiatives through presentations and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit regular reports to leadership.
  • Lead collaboration efforts across departments to fulfill all needs for Camp programming
  • Generate leads and connections from Camp and other events for Growth and Development follow- up.
  • Promote the use of the Camp whenever appropriate as an ambassador and representative for the Camp and Operation BBQ Relief.
  • Ensure on-site events are done in “The OBR Way” and in compliance with Operation BBQ Relief policies, procedures, expectations, standards and corporate culture.
  • Complete administrative tasks including, but not limited to, expense submissions, paperwork, forms, company-assigned trainings, and document reviews.
  • Work with supervisor to complete employee evaluations as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven track record in planning and executing events, retreats, or therapeutic programs.
  • Experience working with trauma-informed populations such as veterans, first responders, or Gold Star families.
  • Strong leadership and volunteer management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, including public speaking.
  • Highly organized and adept at managing logistics and multi-day events.
  • Experience with scheduling, budgeting, and administrative oversight.
  • Willingness to work weekends and stay onsite during key events if needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Military or first responder background or strong familiarity with these communities.
  • Culinary experience or passion is a plus.
  • Nonprofit leadership or programming experience.
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic or wellness retreats.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or emergency preparedness training.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, internet browsers, web-based programs, and email.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5,000 hours of hands-on experience

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to walk long distances and manage hilly or uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
