Assistant Director, Sports & Recreation
The Assistant Director helps the Director, Sports & Recreation with all day-to-day operations of the Sports and Recreation Department. The Assistant Director ensures fiscal sustainability through strategic planning and innovative programming. Current programs include Baseball, Basketball, Flag Football, Softball, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, preschool sports programs and more.
Essential Functions
- Assists in developing innovative programs designed to meet the needs of The J members and community participants.
- Hires, trains, and supervises staff as needed, including Managers, Supervisors, coaches, umpires and referees.
- Assists in developing all sports and recreation program budgets and ensures that programs operate within approved budgets.
- Works cooperatively with the Marketing department to oversee advertising of all sports and recreation related programs.
- Monitors the condition of sports facilities and equipment for safety and function, requesting maintenance in a timely manner.
- Assists in creating, enforcing and overseeing all policies associated with Sports and Recreation programs.
- Works cooperatively with professionals and lay people from The J and other organizations to plan and implement special projects and events.
Schedule
- Must be available to work some evenings and weekends to effectively supervise programs and staff.
- May travel infrequently to attend conferences and/or events.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or related field preferred.
- Four or more years of sports programming in a large program is required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large teams and provide effective supervision of employees, which may include coaching, counseling and correcting.
- Experience managing complex budgets and schedules.
- Able to work evenings and weekends.
- Entrepreneurial approach to growing program participation through innovative program offerings and high customer satisfaction.
- Proven ability to drive revenue and boost customer satisfaction by providing - directly and indirectly - exemplary customer service.
- Ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues while maintaining accountability and results.
- Ability to identify opportunities to market Sports and Recreation programs.
- First Aid and CPR Pro Rescuer certified.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift at least 25 pounds.
- Able to move freely around indoor and outdoor Sports facilities.
Job Type: Full Time
Salary Range: $50,000 - 74,999
