POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Volunteer Coordinator supports the Human Resources Department by facilitating the Zoo & Aquarium’s short-term and long-term volunteer programs. This position will also assist the Human Resources Department by performing various tasks and serving as a backup, ensuring vital responsibilities may be performed in case of absence.
 
This is a part time position, working an average of 29 hours per week.
 
 
POSITION DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leads volunteer programs, including:
  • Overseeing, coordinating, and evaluating volunteer programs.
  • Conducting volunteer interviews as needed.
  • Facilitating volunteer onboarding processes and managing background screenings.
  • Assisting with volunteer orientation sessions, under the guidance of the Learning & Development Manager.
  • Supporting volunteers through the full lifecycle of program participation.
  • Establishing and maintaining an annual calendar for short term programs, based upon the needs of the departments and needs of the Zoo & Aquarium.
  • Coordinating volunteer special events and recognition with all departments.
  • Organizing and maintaining all necessary records and systems.

Performs administrative tasks and serves as backup for various HR roles, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • EDUCATION & FORMAL TRAINING:
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
    • Previous administrative/office experience desired.
    • Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
    • Previous volunteer management experience welcomed.
    • Can represent the company in a professional and positive manner.
  • OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must have valid driver’s license.
    • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and evening hours, in all weather extremes.
    • Must pass a background and drug screening.
