Smith has a long career working in skilled nursing centers. Starting as a certified nursing assistant, he moved up through the ranks, eventually taking posts as CEO for two facilities in the Kansas City area. He joined Nonprofit Connect in 2021 and now puts his executive skills — bolstered by an executive MBA — to work for the benefit of nonprofits throughout the area. The organization helps make other nonprofits more effective by providing training in fundraising, administration and even board service. It also helps connect talent with nonprofits, including through networking events.
