Fromm’s Clinical Insights
Living with Fromm: Insights for the Clinical Encounter Presented by: Sandra Buechler, PhD Although Erich Fromm did not write a great deal about clinical technique, his insights about human beings as individuals, and as part of a culture, can guide and inspire the clinician. Using clinical vignettes, the presenter will describe how ideas introduced by Fromm can affect the clinician’s focus on the material, sense of treatment goals, and choice of interventions. ******************************************************************************* LEARNING OBJECTIVES: After attending this session, participants should be able to: 1. Describe how Fromm’s conception of existential motivations can guide the clinician’s focus on the material. 2. Apply Fromm’s profound insights to the clinician’s behavior at each succeeding stage of the treatment.
