Saturday STEM Seminar - 'A Passionate Uruguayan Making Science in All the World' Presented by Dr. Anabel Martinez Bengoche
My science story starts in the countryside of Uruguay where my grandparents had a summer farm. There, at 7 years old, I discovered my love for science when my grandmother gave me her test glass tubes from the job (she was an endocrinology technician) to play with. In my mind, I was only making a potion of youth using garden flowers. After that the rest is history!
Anabel is a versatile researcher in the field of molecular biology, specializing in the development of new methodologies. With a PhD from Brazil, an MSc, and a bachelors in Biochemistry from Uruguay, South America, she has contributed to many different scientific fields. Her current work at Children’s Mercy Research focuses on developing tools to help detect genetic rare variants that can lead to disease in children.
