Saturday STEM Seminar - 'Can Mini Brains in a Dish Model Alzheimer’s Disease?' Presented by Dr. Heather Wilkins
Understanding what causes Alzheimer’s Disease is difficult and requires complex models. We will explore how mini brains are developed in the lab and how they could give us clues to what drives Alzheimer’s Disease.
Dr. Wilkins attended Kansas State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science. She then completed her PhD training at the University of Denver in 2013. Dr. Wilkins joined the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center as a postdoctoral fellow in August 2013 and joined the faculty in 2019. Dr. Wilkins’ research interests are centered on understanding how brain energy influences Alzheimer’s disease pathology.
