Saturday STEM Seminar - 'From Firearms to DNA, Exploring Forensic Science.' Presented by Patrick Gillespie.
Our Fall/Spring Saturday STEM Seminars offer a fantastic and FREE chance to get introduced to the diverse world of STEM careers and professionals. Held about once a month, this series aims to expose students and public alike to cutting-edge topics in science and showcase the career paths taken by an array of STEM experts - from aerospace engineers to forensic specialists. As an added incentive, at the end of each semester, the Kansas City area educator who sends the most students to our seminars (for some extra credit hopefully!) will be awarded a special prize!
The goal of forensic science is to answer questions through analyzing evidence. The answers to those questions can aid in prosecuting a criminal or absolving the innocent. Through real casework, we will examine several disciplines of forensic science – their capabilities, limitations, and impact.
