Understanding Transparency & Accountability in Nonprofits
This fall, Nonprofit Connect partnered with IREX to host an international Community Solutions Program Fellow, Reakshar Chhorn, Provincial Office Coordinator at Transparency International Cambodia. As an expert in transparency and accountability issues, Reakshar is ready to share information with the Nonprofit Connect network.
Presenting transparent information in the nonprofit sector is critical for getting credibility, loyalty, and legitimacy from the public, funders, stakeholders, and government partners. Legally, nonprofit organizations have no obligation to publish activities and outcomes beyond completing financial 990 tax returns. When nonprofits adopt best practices of transparency and accountability it's easier to sustain their nonprofit and build trusting relationships with constituents and funders .
During the session, Reakshar will cover:
- The terms of Accountability and Transparency as well as how the concepts are interconnected
- Why social reports and activity reports are just as crucial as financial information
- How to advocate for more transparency and accountability within your organization
Presenter:
Reakshar Chhorn is a Provincial Office Coordinator at Transparency International Cambodia. She is the only one Cambodian fellow for the year 2021 in the Community Solutions Program (CSP) under the thematic area Transparency and Accountability. She has experience in promoting transparency and accountability at the grassroots level through Youth Engagement and Citizen Engagement. In addition to her full-time job, she likes volunteering in other nonprofit organizations in order to upgrade her skills and expand her network of people for her professional goal in the future. Through CSP, Reakshar has been matched with the Nonprofit Connect in Kansas City for two months. With this period, Reakshar plans to learn new skills like the ways to communicate among the team, the ways to mobilize participants, and also share her knowledge with the Nonprofit Connect network.
