Volunteer Engagement Roundtable
Calling all nonprofit volunteer engagement professionals!
The Volunteer Engagement Roundtable is a unique opportunity for individuals and organizations to come together and share their experiences, challenges, and successes in the world of volunteering.
Join us for a thought-provoking and inspiring time as we gather nonprofit volunteer leaders to reflect on the past year and gain insights about how to approach 2024. Taking time to engage in thoughtful conversations, participants will use their peers' reflections to inspire and inform their plans.
Don't miss this opportunity to be part of a meaningful and transformative discussion on volunteer engagement. We look forward to your participation!
This roundtable is intended for nonprofit professionals who work in volunteer management.
Facilitators:
Ariel Penner
For nearly 10 years, Ariel Penner has been a leader in the non-profit space. Ari is most known for her nearly tenure work with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City (RMHC-KC), where she began as an intern, grew into a Program Manager and is currently working as the charity’s Volunteer Manager, overseeing 17,000+ volunteers annually. The mission of RMHC-KC is to reduce the burden of childhood illness on children and their families.
Ari began her career in non-profit work during her Masters of Social Work program, where she graduated with her MSW degree in Administration and Advocacy from the University of Kansas. She has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology from Baker University where she was a collegiate cross country and track athlete, along with an active leader in the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
More recently, Ari acted as the Chair of genKC leading a group of 50+ members and providing early career professionals with opportunities to enhance personal and professional skill sets in KC. In this role, she is also a member of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, helping lead the way to the best KC region.
Outside of her work with the Chamber, Ari is an ice hockey player, an avid runner and is currently a member of Team RMHC, running and training for her seventh Chicago Marathon. She’s a proud long-time KC transplant from Newton, KS who you can often find running with various friends and running groups all over the metro.
Mike Marcus
Passionate about driving positive change through authentic relationships and meaningful action, I excel in uniting diverse stakeholders for collective community growth. As Community Engagement Coordinator at Reconciliation Services, I work to magnify voices and craft solutions that tackle social issues from the ground up.
With a proven track record in driving revenue and operational excellence, I blend seasoned business acumen with emotional intelligence in leadership. My role involves not just community investment but also revenue enhancement through strategic partnerships and earned income opportunities, such as Thelma’s Kitchen.
Drawing on a rich tapestry of experience—ranging from customer service and project management to advocacy—I’m deeply committed to reciprocal transformation: enriching lives while achieving organizational goals.
Empathy and active listening are cornerstones of my approach, fostering spaces where every individual feels heard and valued.
