Event Description:

You spend hours tweaking your resume and cover letter to show off all your accomplishments, but how do you stand out from other qualified candidates? Once a hiring manager determines that you are capable, they often focus on how you fit with the internal culture, your soft skills, and how you translate previous job experience to the role. In fact, 77% of employers believe soft skills are just an important as hard skills. At this YNPNkc Lunch & Learn, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from a hiring manager and human resources professional at one of the city’s largest employers: Children’s Mercy Hospital.

Ali Abplanalp, Managing Director of Philanthropic Engagement and Events; and Julie Aust, Senior Talent Recruiter have hired a number of people on a rapidly growing team. They have extensive experience hiring for culture fit, and will share what soft skills they look for in a candidate. Learn how you can emphasize those skills and previous experience in the application and interview process, so that you stand out from the crowd. In addition, Julie will share tips on navigating salary and benefit negotiation.

This Lunch & Learn will be pertinent for both experienced nonprofit professionals looking for the next step, as well as entry level professionals looking for their first position.
