Online Scholarship Reviewer for Great Jobs KC

Looking for an easy, convenient, and meaningful way to give back to the Kansas City community? Great Jobs KC is looking for online volunteers to review scholarship application essays, which helps us determine which of our hundreds of applicants receive either our $25,000 Adult Learner College Scholarship or our $50,000 11th-Grade College Scholarship. We are seeking individuals with knowledge, understanding, and experience with the challenges related to enrolling in and completing college to serve as volunteer Scholarship Reviewers. Because this volunteer opportunity is completely virtual, reviewers can complete it from anywhere, at their convenience.

At Great Jobs KC, we believe anyone who wants to upskill their life through education should have the opportunity to do so, and our Scholarship Reviewers help make that dream a reality. As a Scholarship Reviewer, you will play a vital role in selecting the next cohort of KC Scholars by reading and scoring student application essays online. 

If selected, Scholarship Reviewers are required to attend a 2-hour virtual training session in March and volunteer approximately 15-18 hours during the application review period from March 15, 2027, through March 31, 2027, scoring around 35 applications using our provided rubric.

Does this seem like the volunteer opportunity for you? Great! To qualify, you must be at least 21 years old and live/work in one of the six counties we serve (KS: Wyandotte and Johnson; MO: Clay, Platte, Cass, and Jackson). Individuals with strong connections to Kansas City are still encouraged to apply even if this requirement is not met. We ask that all volunteers not have close personal or professional association with scholarship applicants or be current staff of high schools or community organizations within the KC Scholars network.
