Heartland Center is seeking new board members to fill three empty positions. We are looking for those that are in line with the mission of our organization: Heartland Center for Behavioral Change provides behavioral healthcare and substance use disorder services to help individuals lead healthier, happier, more productive lives.

Below is the job description for Board Members:



Heartland Center for Behavioral Change Board Member Job Description

Term:             Three (3) years, renewable twice

Reports to:    Board of Directors


Estimated Time Requirements:

                Board meetings -2 hours a month                                                                            24 hours per year

                
Annual board retreats                                                                                              4-8 hours per year

               
 Special meetings                                                                                                         4 hours per year

                
Committee work                                                                                               10-24 hours per year 

               
 Miscellaneous events, preparation for meetings                                                   8-14 hours per year

               
Total Time Commitment                                                                                     50-74 hours per year

Expectations:

Participate in all board meetings

Participate in annual board retreat and other special meetings

Serve on and participate in at least one board committee

Attend occasional organizational events (social, educational, site tours, etc.)

Qualifications:


Commitment to the mission, success and development of the organization

Time available to prepare for and participate fully in actual board work

A focus on the big picture and the future that is visionary yet practical

Acceptance of a role that carries no individual authority

Ability to participate assertively in group process

Capacity for conceptual flexibility and for addressing issues in a disciplined, careful process

Comfort with accepting responsibility for and not undermining a group decision legitimately made by the board

Willingness to participate in judging the performance of the CEO, but only in relation to pre-established criteria defined in board policies
