Volunteer Advocates Needed

Offer Valid: 03/20/2024 - 10/31/2024
Help Support Survivors!
MOCSA exists to improve the lives of those impacted by sexual abuse and assault and to prevent sexual violence in our community. MOCSA Volunteers help make our mission possible by helping in the hospital, over the phone, and in the classroom. As a 24-Hour organization, we always need help. We offer flexible scheduling to match anyone's availability! Here are the ways you can get involved:
  • Hospital Advocate: Provide support to survivors during their sexual assault forensic exams. Hospital Advocates offer emotional support, crisis intervention and problem solving to assist survivors on their first step toward healing. This is an on-call position.
  • Crisis Line: Help callers on our 24-Hour Crisis Line navigate questions and concerns while offering resources and support. This is not a call center position - volunteer from the comfort of your couch!
  • Project Aware (Education): Help promote awareness of sexual violence in schools through MOCSA's Project Aware curriculum. This easy to learn (and teach!) classroom presentation is focused on body safety, identifying safe adults, and teaching the basics of consent to students K-5. If you enjoy kids and have daytime availability, this position is for you!
Requirements:
  • Be 18 years or older with reliable transportation and a phone.
  • Be sensitive to issues of sexual assault and abuse and have effective communication and listening skills.
  • Complete an Annual Background Check and 5-Year Fingerprint Registration.
  • All MOCSA Volunteers must complete a 40 hour training course, which is divided between online work and an in-person training weekend. In-person sessions are offered quarterly.
If interested, please complete an application here or email volunteer@mocsa.org with any questions.

At MOCSA we are committed to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility (IDEA) and invite you to be part of our dedicated and passionate team. Individuals who have been personally impacted by sexual violence are encouraged to apply. We believe that each employee is key to our success, and inclusion is everyone's responsibility.
