Support Veterans in Starting, Growing, and Scaling Their Businesses

VetBiz (The Veterans Advocacy Foundation) is seeking passionate, dedicated individuals to join our board of directors. As a board member, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding our organization as we support Veteran Business Owners in Missouri, Southern Illinois, and Kansas with a mission to empower Veterans, military spouses and families to start, grow, scale and succeed in their businesses.

Within VetBiz’s next three-year strategic plan, we aim to significantly expand our services and impact. We currently have open positions in the following committees: Governance, Fund Development, Programs, and Finance. This is an opportunity to make a real difference, bring your expertise to the table, and support our mission with your time, talent and/or treasure.

Ideal candidates will bring expertise in leadership, fundraising, finance, or program development. Experience in governance and nonprofit strategy is highly valued.

Our board spans three major metropolitan areas—St. Louis, Kansas City, and Wichita—and board members can reside anywhere within our three-state region. This flexibility allows you to contribute meaningfully, regardless of your location, while playing an essential role in shaping the future of Veteran Entrepreneurship and business development in the region.

What’s expected of board members?

  • Attend 6 board meetings per year.
  • Join a committee to contribute your knowledge and experience.
  • Be an ambassador for VetBiz, supporting Veteran Entrepreneurship in your community.
  • Assist with Fund Development efforts by leveraging your treasure and network to fuel VetBiz success.
The Veteran Experience

Being part of VetBiz goes beyond just business development. Veterans benefit from:

  • Comradery: Joining a supportive community of fellow veterans and military spouses who understand the unique challenges of transitioning into civilian business ownership. The shared experience fosters strong bonds and mutual support.

  • Continuation of Service: Many veterans find a sense of purpose in entrepreneurship by continuing to serve their community, whether by creating jobs or providing services that impact the lives of others.

  • Foundational Confidence: The resources, mentorship, and guidance provided by VetBiz give veterans the confidence they need to navigate the complexities of business ownership and leadership, empowering them to succeed in the civilian world.

  • Leadership Skills: Veterans draw on their military leadership experience and further develop those skills in the context of running a successful business, contributing to both their personal growth and community development.

  • Lifelong Learning: The continuous education and training opportunities provided by VetBiz ensure that veterans can stay ahead in business, adapting to new challenges and markets with resilience and innovation.

Our Impact
Through VetBiz, Veteran Business Owners gain access to:

  • Business Counseling and Mentorship: Tailored guidance from experienced mentors to help veterans build, grow, and scale their businesses.
