Director of Accounting
The Director of Accounting provides strategic financial leadership for The Farmer’s House (TFH) by establishing and implementing comprehensive accounting policies, providing financial analyses and recommendations, and ensuring fiscal responsibility across all operations. This role combines high-level financial strategy with hands-on management of day-to-day accounting operations.

Strategic Leadership

Champion TFH’s mission and effectively communicate our story to stakeholders

Provide strategic financial guidance and comprehensive updates to executive team

Develop and monitor financial performance, benchmarks, and KPIs
-
Partner with ED on program performance metrics and long-range planning
-
Lead financial planning and reporting
-
Direct property management strategy and capital planning
-
Key member of the team for future capital campaigns
Financial Management & Compliance
-
Establish and maintain robust accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
-
Ensure compliance with federal/state regulations and GAAP financial reporting standards
-
Oversee all accounting operations, including monthly close process
-
Manage annual budgeting process and provide variance analysis
-
Coordinate external audits and maintaining required licenses/permits
-
Oversee Medicaid billing accuracy and compliance
-
Supervise accounting support staff
Essential Functions:
Accounting Operations
-
Manage all aspects of QuickBooks accounting system, including:
-
Monthly close process and journal entries
-
Bank reconciliations and cash management
-
Integration with point-of-sale, donor management, and other systems
-
Fixed asset tracking and depreciation
-

Process and review monthly financial reporting for:
-
Executive Director and department managers
-
Finance Committee and Board of Directors
-
Grant requirements and special projects
-
-
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash handling procedures
-
Manage relationship with external auditors and regulatory bodies
-
GAAP audit
-
CARF accreditation
-
Revenue & Treasury Management
-
Oversee donation/grant processing, budgets and tracking
-
Monitor and reconcile revenue streams (market sales, special events, grants)
-
Manage investment portfolio including brokerage accounts, CDs, stock donations
-
Implement and maintain credit card processing systems
-
Supervise cash handling procedures and internal controls
-
Review internal reports and notifications regarding client budget usage for accuracy prior to providing to the Medicaid Director.
Payroll & Benefits Administration
-
Oversee biweekly payroll processing through Lever1
-
Work with HR/ED on researching and establishing salary banding
-
Manage employee benefit programs and deductions
-
Process Edward Jones retirement contributions
-
Negotiate and administer health insurance and other benefit programs
-
Maintain accurate cost allocations by department and program
Systems & Process Improvement

Analyze and implement financial software integrations for:

CIMOR (Client Information Management and Outcome Reporting)

Lightspeed POS
-
Salesforce
-
GiveSmart
-
Credit card processing systems
-

Develop automated solutions for financial reporting and analysis

Maintain documentation of all financial processes and procedures
Property & Risk Management

Oversee facility leases and property maintenance personnel
-
Prepare and monitor capital budgets
-
Negotiate insurance policies (liability, E&O, D&O, umbrella, auto)

Manage risk assessment and mitigation strategies

Work Environment:

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Requiring attendance at monthly board meetings and special events outside of standard business hours.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Minimum of 5 years accounting experience.

Demonstrated proficiency with Quickbooks

Experience with financial reporting and analysis

Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles
