Senior Accountant
The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is the Catholic Church in Northeast Kansas: Growing as Disciples of Jesus; Making Disciples for Jesus. The Senior Accountant plays an important role in supporting the mission of the Church by serving as a subject matter expert in all areas of accounting to directly assist parishes supported by our Shared Business Services model. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, benefits eligible, and predominately onsite in the Chancery office.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare, process and post payroll journal entries including donations, taxes and receipts, benefits, and month-end accrual entry for each payroll from GL detail and summary reports.
- Record investment income and fee transactions and reconcile investment accounts and statements to the general ledger.
- Reconcile all benefit activity through payroll to respective service providers’ database reports for contributions including 401k, 403b, and FSA accounts.
- Assist the accounting team with issue resolutions on entity invoicing, ACH payment processes, welfare premiums, and internal billings.
- Analyze balance sheet accounts and financial statements to identify and explain variances.
- Provide support for the annual audits of Archdiocesan entities.
- Prepare, analyze, reconcile and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare monthly cash forecasts for entities and request sale/transfer of assets to ensure funding of cash accounts.

- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum five years of accounting experience required; nonprofit or parish/church experience preferred.
- Experience maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operational use.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing is helpful and preferred.
