Programs Assistant (Part-Time)

The Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA) is the largest and oldest bar association in the Kansas City area, serving 5,000 members across nine counties in Missouri and Kansas since 1884. The Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation (KCMBF) is KCMBA's charitable arm, serving the KC community since 1979 through three signature programs — Military Matters, Student Law Academy, and Alliance Against Domestic Violence — each built around the unique skills and relationships of the legal community.

This position is employed by KCMBA and works in direct support of KCMBF's Military Matters program. You'll be backed by the infrastructure of a 140-year-old institution while doing the hands-on work of a small, mission-driven team.

We're looking for a Programs Assistant who wants to be a part of it.

The Role
This is a part-time, hourly position at the center of our Military Matters program — KCMBF's signature initiative connecting veterans and active-duty service members with free legal help. Day to day, you'll manage the referral process, support and retain our volunteer attorney base, and help plan events including the annual Military Matters Symposium. You'll also provide seasonal support to the Student Law Academy and Alliance Against Domestic Violence programs.

This role reports to the Associate Executive Director and is a great fit for someone who is organized, relationship-oriented, and energized by mission-driven work.

What You'll Do

  • Manage the daily operations of the Military Matters referral process — coordinating referrals, monitoring case status, and maintaining community partner relationships
  • Support retention and recruitment of Military Matters volunteer attorneys
  • Plan and execute the annual Military Matters Symposium and assist with KCMBF fundraising events including the Gala and Military Matters 5k
  • Provide administrative support to the Military Matters Operating Committee — scheduling, agendas, minutes, and materials
  • Assist with grant research, identification, application and reporting
  • Keep content current across applicable websites and support social media recognition of volunteers and initiatives
  • Provide seasonal support to Student Law Academy and Alliance Against Domestic Violence
 What We're Looking For
  • Organized and detail-oriented — you can manage multiple active referrals and deadlines without dropping the ball
  • Strong communicator — in writing, by phone, and in person, with a high level of professionalism
  • Relationship-builder — you work well with volunteers, community partners, and committee members
  • Self-directed — you can manage projects and assignments with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; significant relevant experience welcomed in lieu of degree
Why KCMBA
  • Work that matters — your daily work directly supports veterans, students, and survivors in Kansas City through KCMBF's programs
  • Backed by the stability and structure of KCMBA, the largest and oldest bar association in the Kansas City area — your employment, benefits, and team are part of a 140-year-old institution
  • A collaborative, team-oriented environment with cross-functional engagement across KCMBA and KCMBF
  • Flexible, part-time schedule — meaningful work with manageable hours
Location & Schedule
Kansas City, MO. Part-time, hourly, non-exempt. Occasional evening and weekend attendance required for events. Year-end availability expected due to fundraising activity.
