Assistant Development Director – Donor Relations & Cultivation
Salary: $50-55K+ Benefits(Based on Experience)

Position Summary

The Kansas City Automotive Museum is seeking an Assistant Development Director to play a vital role in advancing our mission of celebrating Kansas City’s rich automotive history. This position focuses on donor relations, cultivation, and stewardship, helping to expand our donor base and strengthen engagement with current and prospective supporters. The Assistant Development Director supports both the Development Director and the Executive Director, working collaboratively to implement fundraising strategies that ensure the Museum’s long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

Donor Relations & Cultivation

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and community partners.
  • Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, focusing on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of mid-level and major gifts.
  • Conduct donor research to identify new prospects and match their interests with Museum priorities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to create personalized cultivation strategies, including meetings, tours, phone calls, and tailored communications.
  • Implement stewardship plans to thank and recognize donors at all levels.

Fundraising & Campaign Support

  • Assist in planning and executing annual giving campaigns, major gift initiatives, and special projects.
  • Draft and prepare donor communications, proposals, and impact reports.
  • Track donor interactions, campaigns, and progress using the Bloomerang CRM system.
  • Support donor cultivation events, recognition receptions, and exclusive Museum experiences.

Administrative & Strategic Support

  • Support the Development Director and Executive Director in setting fundraising goals and tracking progress.
  • Prepare reports, donor briefings, and materials for leadership and board outreach.
  • Maintain accurate donor records, acknowledgments, and reports in Bloomerang.
  • Stay current on fundraising trends and best practices, bringing new ideas to strengthen donor engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or related field OR a minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or development.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with a donor-first mindset.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with donor management systems, with experience in Bloomerang strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and passion for the Museum’s mission, with the ability to convey enthusiasm to donors and supporters.

Work Environment

  • Full-time position; some evenings and weekends required for events.
  • Reports directly to the Development Director and Executive Director.
  • Works closely with Museum staff, volunteers, and board members.

Job Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $50,000 - 74,999
