Development Manager
Overview: The Development Manager will be responsible for assisting the Director of Development in planning, implementing, and growing Phoenix Family’s annual fund. The Development Manager is integral to our team’s effort to develop and implement strategies to increase annual donations, expand our donor base, and cultivate long-term donor relationships. The position requires creativity, organization, computer skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Annual Giving (50%)
- With the Director of Development, create and execute on an annual giving operating plan, including annual and quarterly goals with detailed cultivation and solicitation calendar and strategies.
- Manage a comprehensive annual giving program, including direct mail, email campaigns, online giving, and special appeals. Ensure alignment with overall development goals and contribute to the strategic planning process.
- Expand Phoenix Family’s donor base.
- Lead Phoenix Family’s monthly giving program, including creating and executing quarterly goals with detailed strategy to grow program to $25,000 within 24 months.
- Manage solicitation calendar; Play a key role in data segmentation for purposes of customizing annual appeals.
- Work closely with the Director of Development to develop marketing collateral and manage consistent solicitation messaging to donors and prospects that aligns with donor-specific stewardship plans to drive engagement, conversion and retention.
- Create and automate programs for workplace giving, first-time donors, and recurring donors, incorporating appropriate stewardship and communication to influence donor giving.
- Lead Phoenix Family’s Adopt-A-Family/Adopt-A-Senior and Operation Backpack campaigns, including cultivation and solicitation of new and existing donors, create and execute solicitation materials, coordinate gathering and distribution of profiles, coordinate/organize the collection and distribution of all donations; oversee donor recognition and acknowledgement.
- Collaborate with the Special Events and Sponsorship Manager to organize, develop, execute, and assess small fundraising events to raise revenue and increase awareness of agency. Including: develop and track budgets, manage event logistics, manage vendors, including contract negotiations, and prepare appropriate action and marketing plan for each event.
- Work in coordination with team to help plan and deliver Phoenix Family’s annual gala, adapting to changing priorities and tasks as needed.
- Work closely with the Director of Development to create and manage content, messaging, and materials that support the individual gifts strategy and actively look for exciting stories to tell and provide input on how we most effectively connect with audiences and share our impact.
- Maintain a working knowledge of Phoenix Family’s mission and its programs to address them.
- Keep up to date on current fundraising programs, practices and procedures used in the nonprofit sector.
- Create and update collateral materials to support gift cultivation.
- Other duties as assigned that further agency goals and objectives.
Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in fundraising and non-profit development, including demonstrated success and growth in development related activities over time. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills; great attention to detail, and capable of working independently, as well as having excellent communication skills and the ability to work in team situations.
Communication Skills: Outstanding written and spoken communication skills. Experience in leading multi-channel fundraising campaigns and appeals.
Computer Skills: Intermediate knowledge and proven adaptability to changing computer technology and software programs. Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Canva. Proficient with donor CRM, with experience in Salesforce a plus. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Ideal candidate will have working knowledge of running queries and exporting data, segmenting based on donor giving patterns, etc.
Other Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated experience and success in developing positive, long-term relationships with donors, volunteers, or supporters and ability to deliver donor-centric solutions. Ability to establish priorities and manage timelines effectively is essential. Ability to adapt and work in a rapidly changing environment. Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, as needed.
Work Hours: This is a full-time position, primarily in-office. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel: Occasional travel throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area with mileage reimbursement.

The salary for this position is $50,000-$65,000 depending on experience, credentials, and education.
