Development Manager - Special Events

AGENCY OVERVIEW
Cornerstones of Care is a behavioral healthcare organization providing prevention, treatment and support services to children and their families. The children we serve have all experienced some kind of trauma through no fault of their own. Trauma resulting from abuse or neglect, witnessing or experiencing violence in their community or from being separated from a loved one.

Cornerstones of Care helps 15,000 children and families each year in Kansas, Missouri, and beyond, through youth & family support services, foster care & adoption, and education & training.

PURPOSE
The Development Manager-Special Events is part of the 10-member Development Team, which raises $7 million annually in support of the agency’s mission of partnering for safe and healthy communities, through public support, charitable and government grants, special events and legacy giving.

The Development Manager-Special Events is responsible for leading the planning and coordination of signature events like "Tee It Up Fore the Kids" and "Pies for a Purpose," as well as supporting third-party events. Key responsibilities include managing event logistics, overseeing participant registration, directing on-site event operations, and handling special event auctions. This position ensures each event is effectively executed to maximize community engagement and achieve fundraising targets.

COLLABORATIVE SPECIAL EVENTS TEAM ENVIRONMENT
At Cornerstones of Care, our special events team works collaboratively on all initiatives, ensuring a cohesive approach to planning and execution. While the team supports each event collectively, you will take the lead or act as the point person on specific areas within special events, harnessing your expertise to drive success and meet our mission goals.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Event Leadership: Lead specific events as assigned by the Director of Special Events, leveraging your expertise to maximize success and drive strategic outcomes.
Fundraising Strategy: Collaborate with the Director of Special Events to develop and execute fundraising strategies, identifying key opportunities for growth and new donor prospects.
Sponsorship Management: Take primary responsibility for soliciting, managing, and maintaining sponsorships. Cultivate strong relationships with current sponsors, identify and engage new sponsors, and ensure effective stewardship to maximize long-term support.
Donor Relations: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors and community partners, ensuring effective communication and stewardship to foster long-term support.
Strategic Input: Provide high-level input on all events, helping to shape and align event strategies with the organization’s mission and long-term goals.
Auction Management: Lead efforts in soliciting new items for live auctions, manage auction inventory, and ensure efficient tracking and categorization of items to enhance fundraising appeal.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with the special events team and broader development staff to ensure cohesive planning and execution across all initiatives.
Support and Miscellaneous Duties: Provide support to other Development Team members as needed, particularly during high-volume periods. Ensure all events align with the agency’s commitment to trauma
-informed care and the WIDE Initiative. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge, Adobe Create Suite and other relevant software.
Fundraising Landscape: In-depth knowledge of the local fundraising landscape, donor engagement strategies, and best practices in volunteer management.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and their application within a non-profit environment.

Leadership: Proven leadership skills with a track record of driving successful events and fundraising initiatives.
Relationship Building: Exceptional ability to build and sustain trusting relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Project Management: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines across various locations.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with both internal and external audiences.
Public Engagement: Experience and comfort in interfacing with the public, donors, and program staff.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift items weighing over 15 pounds on occasion or seek assistance as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required.
Years of Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in non-profit development or a related field, with a strong emphasis on special events and fundraising.
In addition to the above requirements, incumbent must:
Complete the agency’s Sanctuary training upon hire and start date in a timely manner.
Have a valid driver’s license and proof of current vehicle insurance.
Follow all agency policies.
Be able to pass State Abuse, Neglect, and criminal background checks.
Be able to carry out the essential functions of the position with, or without, accommodation.
Perform all job duties in a manner which demonstrates a commitment to Sanctuary values and practices.
Demonstrate awareness and understanding of cultural and ethnic diversity of clients, staff, and other community partners; and,
Fulfill other duties as assigned.
