Major Gifts Officer

Job Title: Major Gifts Officer- Supervised By: Executive Director
Compensation: Based upon experience. Minimum $60K/year, Plus Benefits 

Summary: The Major Gifts Officer will work in partnership  with the Development Director to cultivate, engage and steward donors for the Kansas City Automotive Museum (KCAM) while helping to  increase community awareness of  KCAM programs. The primary focus is to ensure the Museum meets its annual fundraising goal and secure  capital campaign  funding for KCAM’s future home This role requires strong interpersonal skills, disciplined follow-through, and a commitment to donor-centered fundraising.

This position will report directly to the Executive Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities-include the following: 

Fundraising activities, including: (80%)

  • Cultivate relationships with current and potential high net worth individuals, foundations, corporations and other sources for charitable giving.
  • Identify grant opportunities, prepare and submit grant applications.
  • Maintain current records in the Donor CRM database.
  • Contribute to development and execution of the KCAM fundraising strategy and tactics.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on fundraising campaigns and initiatives.
  • Attend KCAM events.
  • Track progress of pending and secured donations.
  • Track donor activity.
  • Develop fundraising presentations.

Advocate for KCAM’s education, engagement and enrichment activities: (20%)

  • Raise awareness and participation in KCAM’s programs.
  • Engage in community and civic organizations.
  • Serve as one of the key external ambassadors.
  • Assist in elevating Board and volunteer engagement within their networks.
  • ?Other duties as be assigned.

Project Management - Develops project plans, coordinates projects, communicates changes and progress, completes projects on time and budget, and manages project team activities.
Delegation - Sets expectations and monitors delegated activities.
Expand Engagement - Ability to create a special experience and ability to demonstrate the value of the KCAM outside of the car community.
Ask & close - Must have demonstrated experience to convert “the ask” to a commitment and donation.

Education/Experience:
Experience in Fundraising/Development and/or sales is required.
Knowledge of the Kansas City philanthropic community.
Understanding of donor engagement and tracking methods.

Computer Skills: 
Use of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Google, Social Media, Bloomerang CRM, and basic understanding of databases.

Other Skills:
Excellent relationships building skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Good organizational skills. 

Supervisory Responsibilities
To be determined. 

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Ability to work with minimal day to day direction. Ability to work some weekends and evenings.
