Senior Director of Business Development
Purpose
The Senior Director of Business Development is a senior-level leader dedicated to advancing Cornerstones of Care’s mission of partnering with others for safe and healthy communities. This role focuses on identifying strategic growth opportunities and expanding earned revenue programs through community collaboration, program partnerships, and innovative service delivery.
To achieve this, the Senior Director will leverage a deep understanding of community needs and industry trends to translate opportunities into actionable business strategies. By cultivating collaborative relationships and leading formalized business development and planning processes, they will drive sustainable revenue growth while ensuring the organization remains responsive to evolving community needs.
The Senior Director will proactively pursue new business opportunities, including responding to RFPs, developing mission-aligned partnerships, and expanding existing programs. Working closely with internal program and department leaders, they will ensure that growth initiatives are strategically aligned and operationally feasible.
This position is part of the Advancement Team for the agency, whose charge is to fuel the engine to drive and advance Cornerstones of Care’s mission through revenue growth, program partnerships, volunteer engagement, community collaboration, advocacy, brand management, strategic communication, fundraising, special events and charitable/government grants, with an intentional welcoming, inclusive, diverse and equitable lens.
Success in this role will be measured by:
- The development and implementation of high-impact partnerships with revenue-generating programs that increase access and integration of care for service recipients.
- Strengthening financial sustainability through diversified revenue streams.
- Ensuring Cornerstones of Care is actively engaged in key community conversations that shape the future of services and funding opportunities.
Cornerstones of Care is committed to the Sanctuary Model, a comprehensive trauma-informed method for creating change and helping individuals heal from traumatic experiences. It is a whole system approach built around the framework of SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss, and Future). It is designed to facilitate the development of structures, processes, and behaviors on the part of staff, children and the community as a whole that can counteract the physical and psychological wounds suffered by the children, youth, and families in our care. The ultimate outcome of a trauma- informed philosophy is the creation of safe, therapeutic living and working environments for our clients, families, agency members and ancillary providers which espouse the proactive principles of growth, change, and empowerment of the individual for the betterment of the community. Each team member across our family of agencies has the responsibility to demonstrate the tenets of the Sanctuary Model in their work with clients and in their interaction with other team members. Demonstrating these tenets is considered an essential responsibility for all staff in all positions across the entire organization.
Essential Responsibilities
Revenue Growth & Business Development
- Expand Earned Revenue & Business Opportunities – Identify and develop new revenue-generating initiatives that align with community needs and organizational strengths, including forming strategic partnerships and responding to RFPs.
- Guide Business Development Strategy – Lead opportunity assessment, feasibility analysis, and implementation of new and existing earned revenue streams by designing and executing evaluation processes and tools.
- Drive Proposal & Funding Efforts – Develop business plans, funding applications, and proposals to support revenue growth while ensuring alignment with programmatic impact.
- Cultivate Strategic Partnerships – Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including government agencies, provider networks, and managed care entities, to identify opportunities for collaboration and business growth.
- Engage in Community Leadership – Represent the organization in strategic conversations, track emerging trends, and coordinate staff participation in key community discussions aligned with organizational goals.
- Respond to Emerging Needs – Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to address community needs, foster shared learning, and develop impactful partnerships beyond existing contracts and funding.
- Track Industry & Funding Opportunities – Monitor government, private sector, and nonprofit activities, including RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs, to identify opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission and priorities.
- Leverage Data & Market Insights – Track and analyze internal performance data, market trends, customer behavior, and competitive landscapes, identifying strategies for growth.
- Inform Strategic Positioning – Provide leadership with insights and recommendations on emerging internal and external revenue opportunities.
- Define & Measure Success – Establish KPIs and ROI models to assess the impact of earned revenue initiatives and demonstrate value to stakeholders.
- Track & Report Performance – Monitor business development activities, revenue targets, and partnership outcomes, providing regular updates to leadership and the board.
- Evaluate & Optimize Programs – Implement strategies to assess and refine program models, ensuring alignment with organizational, community, and financial goals.
- Knowledge of healthcare, education and social service funding sources, models and corresponding legislation at the federal level, as well as across multiple states.
- Knowledge of governmental and accreditation standards in delivering health & human services such as the Council on Accreditation.
- Knowledge of industry standards of best practice related to the full range of health & human service practice areas, child well-being programs, evidenced-based models of care, and mental and behavioral healthcare.
- Knowledge of current/effective organizational development and business planning models.
- Demonstrates strong financial acumen in the analysis and review of new and existing business opportunities and services.
- Leadership & Organizational Strategy – Champion inclusive, equity-focused initiatives (Sanctuary and WIDE), drive organizational change, and cultivate a positive, adaptive culture.
- Facilitation & Collaboration – Facilitate planning meetings, engage diverse stakeholders, and develop business plans to advance new service opportunities.
- Project Management & Execution – Apply strong planning, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to lead complex initiatives, manage change, identify priorities, and implement strategic solutions.
- Dynamic & Adaptive Leadership – Navigate shifting priorities, take on special projects, and assume new responsibilities to support the organization's evolving goals and needs.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement – Demonstrate strong public speaking, writing, and relationship-building skills across diverse groups to engage internal teams and community partners and develop successful proposals and policies.
- Technology & Professional Materials – Leverage technology to create compelling proposals, presentations, and reports that support decision-making and organizational goals and win new business.
- Develops and implements business development models.
- Commits organizational resources and focus to projects, collaborative efforts and new business opportunities within our communities.

- Education Level:
- Master’s degree in Business, Organizational Development, Social Work, Healthcare Administration, Educational Leadership, or other Leadership field.
- Professional Experience:
- 7-10 years of professional experience in health and human service, education or related field.
- Developed new grant/contract funded human service programs from concept to successful implementation and operation.
- Demonstrated professional experience creating and leading diverse teams.
- Experience interfacing with boards of directors, community groups, and/or other industry or association entities and leaders.
- Experience leading large-scale change initiatives within a human service organization.
- Experience in successful contract award through all stages from RPF evaluation, proposal submission, contract negotiation and implementation of services.
- Complete Sanctuary training in a timely manner;
- Have a valid driver’s license and proof of current vehicle insurance;
- Follow all agency policies;
- Be able to pass State Abuse, Neglect and criminal background checks;
- Be able to carry out the essential functions of the position with, or without, accommodation.

- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of cultural competency of clients, staff and other community partners.
