Vice President of Development

Synergy Services employs compassionate individuals committed to strengthening people, families, and our community through prevention, crisis care, shelter, counseling, advocacy, and education. Synergy Services is looking for a Vice President of Development.

The Vice President of Development is responsible for developing and achieving the agency’s short- and long-term fundraising plans and marketing activities in collaboration with the CEO, Vice President of Grants, and Board of Directors.  This includes the supervision and direct management of the Development Department Team consisting of the Special Events Manager, Marketing Manager, Volunteer Coordinator, Community Outreach Specialist, Fund Development Coordinator, and additional staff as necessary.  The Development Team will be responsible for generating 15% of the agency’s total revenue budget through corporate and individual solicitation, major gifts, an annual giving program, special events, and associated marketing and public relations effort.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
• Participate in annual budget development and in crafting a yearly fund development plan to achieve annual and ongoing revenue goals
• Take the lead role, in partnership with the Finance Vice President, in management of annual and long-range revenue generation
• Collaborate with CEO and Grants team in grant research and submissions
• Develop and manage an integrated and collaborative development team that includes the Special Events Manager, Community Outreach Specialist, Fund Development Coordinator, Marketing and Fundraising Consultants in partnership with members of the agency’s Board of Directors, special event committees, Resiliency Board, Marketing & Development Committee and other committees as developed
• Recruit and vet potential new Board of Director members, manage BOD meeting schedule, agenda and compliance.
• Oversee the department SOP and budget, ensure effective internal communications, marketing, motivation, and strength-based staff relations
• Conduct regular department meetings, updates, and evaluations
• Supervise and participate in the planning and execution of successful agency fundraising events along with tours, open houses, annual meetings and special events
• Direct the Marketing Manager’s development of the agency’s annual marketing plan, including marketing and branding materials, videos, media relations, advertising, social media, and agency website 
• In collaboration with the CEO, Grants team, and Board of Directors develop and manage major gifts 
• Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential donors including oversight of donor recordkeeping, fund development reports and donor related data analysis as required using all appropriate methods including Raisers Edge software
• Take a lead role on the directors team and consult regularly with fellow directors regarding agency plans, needs, compliance, outcomes, and community engagement
• Represent the organization in the community by serving on boards, professional associations, civic organizations and attending relevant meetings, conferences, seminars, and community events on behalf of the organization.
• Participate in Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) activities
• Perform other duties as assigned
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises employees in the Development Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
 
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required: 
• Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
• Minimum five years of experience in leading nonprofit fundraising or for-profit revenue generation. 
• Requires demonstrated success in achieving fundraising or revenue goals and successful track record of cultivating, soliciting, and securing major gifts.  Demonstrated ability to manage, lead, take initiative, work collaboratively as a member of a team, and build relationships with both internal and external constituencies. Must possess strong organizational and managerial capabilities.
 
Preferred:
• Fundraising credentials (CFRE, CFRM) preferred. 
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, board members, clients, customers, and the general public.  Must possess superior written and verbal communication skills.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
The employee in this position must have a valid Driver’s License.  Fundraising credentials (CRFE, CFRM) preferred.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The employee must have the ability to type and perform data entry/10 key.  Must have the ability to use computer software, including Windows, EXCEL, Word for Windows, PowerPoint, and Access.  Prior experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
