Great Jobs KC, Inc. (dba KC Scholars) (www.greatjobskc.org) is a 501(c)(3) college scholarship and tuition-free job training program. Its goal is to support persistence and increase the college completion rate for low- and modest-income students across the six-county, bi-state service region and secure family-sustaining careers. The organization was designed to change thousands of individual lives and transform the region by preparing the local future workforce and contributing to the regional economy. The KC Scholars Scholarship Program awards traditional college scholarships to high school juniors, adult learner scholarships to adults 18 years and older, and college savings match awards to high school freshmen. The Great Jobs KC program provides tuition assistance to approved career training programs in high-demand industries such as construction, healthcare, information technology, logistics/warehousing, manufacturing and service careers. With the support of Great Jobs KC, adults 17+ and older can learn the skills needed in one year or less to secure a job with family-sustaining wages. Great Jobs KC supports all its Scholars throughout their college or job training and into their first year of employment.
 
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reports to:                  Senior Director of Great Jobs KC
Location:                    Kansas City, MO
                                    Hybrid (Technology provided)
Status:                         Non-Exempt (Hourly), Part Time
                                    (Minimum of 9 hours not to exceed 30 hours per week)
Salary:                         Annual salary based on experience
Benefits:                     Not benefit eligible  
Operating hours:       Hours may vary as workshops are offered during daytime and evening hours as well as some weekends.
 
Key Performance Indicators:

  • Maintain accurate attendance records for orientations and workshops 90% of the time.
  • Submit attendance records in a timely manner 100% of the time.
  • Maintain a 90% or above Student Satisfaction Rate on all student workshop surveys. 
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Workshop Facilitator role will report to the Senior Director of Great Jobs KC and will play a key role at Great Jobs KC. This role will ­­­­­be responsible for delivering essential professional skills workshops to adult learners as part of Great Jobs KC’s workshop development program. The Workshop Facilitator is responsible for communicating with the roster of students about any workshop content topic for the duration of each workshop series. This position may require weekday daytime, evening, and weekend availability. Workshops are taught in person and remotely in formats of 1–3-hour increments at designated locations throughout the Greater Kansas City metro area. In addition, facilitators also conduct industry specific orientations which are taught virtually. Applicants should be prepared to commit to a schedule of 12-20 hours a week at a minimum.
 
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Deliver prepared Professional and Career Skills workshops, both remotely and in-person, which cover a wide range of topics including: Time, Stress and Money Management. Interview, resume and effective job search and common workplace skills.
  • Deliver industry specific orientations to a virtual audience.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, record absences and schedule makeup opportunities.
  • Actively engage students to participate in group discussions.
  • Follow up with students throughout workshop series through email and phone.
  • Issue certificate of completion at conclusion of workshops
  • Provide workshop session summary reports.
  • Participate in a weekly meeting to communicate progress, concerns, issues to the Director of Great Jobs KC.
  • Participate in workshop content development, recommend workshop content improvements, and coordinate workshops with program and community partners.
  • Ensures timely responses to all stakeholders 100% of the time.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 Education:
  • Relevant certification or technical training required. An undergraduate degree in a relevant field is highly desired but not required. 
 Work Experience:
  • 2 or more years of experience in a related field
  • Excellent communication skills and strong presentation/facilitator skills.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to large groups.
  • Experience dealing with diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with principles of adult education and their effective use in classroom settings.
  • Proven effective presentation skills aimed at adult populations.
Additional Knowledge, skills, and competencies:
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community education and recreation students.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suites, Zoom, Teams
  • High energy, maturity, and great organizational skills.
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all groups including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a creative and strategic thinker with good judgement and the ability to make independent decisions in a changing and fast-paced environment.
  • Willing to go the extra mile as needed.
  • Personal value system that includes the highest standards of honesty, confidentiality, integrity, loyalty, and professional ethics reflective of the ability to succeed in building and maintaining positive relationships with the community.
  • Excellent communications skills (written, verbal, research skills, presentation skills, facilitation skills).
  • Extremely detail oriented and organized.
Physical requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an office and remote environment.
  • Ability to travel from and to work and occasionally to regional sites as the organization grows.
  • Ability to interact with others via technology, face-to-face and collectively.
