Coordinator of College & Young Adult Ministries

This is a part-time position for someone with a love for God, people from all walks of life and Christian ministry.  This individual will have the skillset to help develop and lead the College and Young Adult Ministry of St. James Church. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in effectively reaching out and discipling the next generation of followers of Jesus Christ. The position requires a detailed innovative thinker, creative, and personable individual who is very passionate about college and young adult ministry. This team member will design and lead college-age and young adult ministry to help St. James Church do ministry to engage existing members, as well as new online “followers and subscribers”, while upholding the vision statement of “connecting people with God in practical ways”. All primary staff have responsibilities for all St. James UMC campuses and will work collaboratively with other team members and ministry leaders.
 
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the development of a safe, authentic, and inclusive community where everyone belongs and has the opportunity to choose to grow and live out their faith.
  • Develop effective community groups for college-aged students and young adults.
  • Recruit, equip and schedule a leadership team of college age students, young adults, and older adults who will help direct the ministry and serve within the church including an online Sunday worship presence.
  • Foster intergenerational connections between college students and young adults with older adults in the church.
  • Develop a comprehensive ministry plan that involves an active social media presence, seasonal events, retreats, service opportunities, and mission trips for college students and young adults.
  • Utilize the church’s community building software for receiving, interpreting and reporting program feedback.
  • Monitor Safe Gatherings practices and maintain fulfillment of the team’s certifications.
  • Regularly pray, analyze and evaluate the worship services and current programs to determine the success, value and potential need for new programs and ways of doing things in order to remain relevant among college age students and young adults.
  • Be proactive in keeping the College and Young Adult Ministry in alignment with the mission of St. James Church and its core values.
  • Nurture one’s own spiritual formation and professional development through personal time for study, preparation, planning and continuing education opportunities.
 
Qualifications:
1.     An active disciple of Jesus Christ
2.     Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of Methodist theology, history and polity, or ability to grasp and adhere to these practices and guiding principles.
3.     Christian engagement and ministry marketing that builds communities on digital and social platforms.
4.     Safe Gatherings certified.
5.     College graduate or a minimum of five years of proven experience in college age and young adult ministry including leading bible studies and small groups.
6.     Experience working with external partners to collaborate on social engagement and spiritual development efforts.
7.     Demonstrated passion for college age and young adult relations, mission minded ministry, community service, and activities associated with globally and consciously inclusive spiritual development.
8.     Knowledge and understanding of the special needs of college age students and young adults post high school to thirty-five years of age.
9.     Have the ability to handle coaching/counseling issues appropriately.
10.  Strong verbal, writing, and computer skills are imperative (MS Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
11.  Ability to perform work with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality
12.  Detail oriented with strong organizational and prioritizing skills
13.  Excellent command of English composition and punctuation
14.  A self-motivated, and dedicated team member

·       Be willing to work evenings and weekends occasionally.
·       Be ever conscious of the need for confidentiality, exercising discernment and wise judgment.
·       Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
·       Have the willingness to seek new information, training, and resources as needed.
·       Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work independently without supervision.
 
Salary is commensurate with experience.
