Reports to: Vice President of Development                                                                         

 

Since 1975 Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) has been an essential part of the Kansas City metro.  Our mission is to improve the lives of those impacted by sexual abuse and assault, and to prevent sexual violence in our community.  This role will manage and implement MOCSA’s two large fundraising events and several smaller events throughout the year. In order to be successful in this role, applicants need to be organized, outgoing, have strong communication skills, creativity, and understand the importance of event attendees having an excellent experience while helping them feel more connected to MOCSA’s mission.

SUMMARY

This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing MOCSA’s special events including two large annual fundraising events raising over $700,000 annually, a donor reception and 3-4 cultivation events, and all 3rd party events, working closely with the development team and event committees.  

 

JOB OBJECTIVES

 

  1. Event & Volunteer Management
    1. Work with VP of Development and event committees to plan and execute all annual fundraising events, donor receptions and third-party fundraising events.
    2. Manage volunteer committees, with guidance from VP of Development, for each event and ensure that committee members are fully supported to accomplish tasks required.
    3. Ensure volunteers and event participants receive regular communication and timely acknowledgement of their gift of time, talent and treasure.
    4. Coordinate and assist in negotiation of contracts and agreements with vendors and third parties for events.
    5. Work with Education team on securing tabling coverage or speakers as needed for third-party events.
    6. Ensure accurate and detailed records of event planning and communications and utilize agency databases to track information.
  2. Budgeting & Profitability
    1. Formulate and manage event budgets and fundraising goals with VP of Development.
    2. Manage small portfolio of 15-20 event donors and work with Director of Corporate and Individual Giving and VP of Development to secure prospects for vent sponsorships, and attendees and volunteer committee role placement.
    3. Collaborate with Vice President of Development and Administration Department to track event budgets, evaluate cost-effectiveness and profitability of each event.
  3. Event Marketing & Awareness Raising
    1. Work with Director of Communications on planning and outreach for traditional and digital media campaigns to publicize events, to heighten public awareness, and reach fundraising goals.
    2. Work with program staff and volunteers to ensure that every event contains program content to enhance the knowledge of the audience and general public regarding MOCSA’s mission and programs.
    3. Reach out to prospects to secure additional 3rd party events hosted for MOCSA each year, and increase revenue raised through these events. MOCSA currently has 20-30 3rd party events a year, raising on average $30,000.
  4. Marketing Materials Design and Review
    1. Coordinate event mailings, advertising and collateral material design, production and distribution, and work with Director of Communications and VP of Development to finalize material approval.
    2. Work with Development Specialist II to coordinate event sponsorship and invitation mailings, as well as additional invitations or social media posts promoting events.

The responsibilities described represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to do all assigned responsibilities. Grant funds may only be used for the provision of approved activities.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 3+ years of experience in customer service, volunteer and special event management, marketing and fundraising support. Word processing and database management experience in: Blackbaud Raisers Edge or similar software/database, Canva or InDesign, Microsoft Suite, social media platforms. Applicants should be organized, detailed oriented, flexible, and able to prioritize and meet deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in public relations, hospitality, event planning, marketing or fundraising preferred. Minimum three years’ experience in special event planning, and marketing and fundraising support.

Work is typically performed in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with board of directors, administration, staff, funders, donors, media, and others encountered in the course of work.

 

WORK HOURS

This is a full-time position; business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Regular evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

 

TRAVEL

Frequent travel throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area to perform leadership and fund development duties.

 

BENEFITS

Full time benefits include 15 days of vacation, 15 paid holidays, 12 sick days, birthday holiday, winter break, 100% employer sponsored health, dental, vision, life, short-term, and long-term disability insurance, EAP, and 2% 403(b) match. 

 

The salary range for this position is $58,000 - $70,000. The base salary range for this role is determined by several factors, including but not limited to education, skills, licensure and certifications, and experience.  The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees, and/or those with advanced credentials.
