Position Summary:  This position reports to the Vice President of Development and Communications and is responsible for leading the engagement efforts through signature and third-party events. Assists the Children’s Place in achieving its mission by enhancing services for the public increasing the agency’s awareness and connection in the Kansas City area by successfully administering effective events.
 
Requirement (Certificates/Degrees/Licenses)

  •  Bachelor’s degree and/or 5-7 years of relevant professional experience as an event planner/manager.
Responsibilities
Events:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive events strategy that will drive increased participation through in-person events and online opportunities.
  • Responsible for all event logistics associated with The Children’s Place in coordination with volunteer groups as needed
  • Manages long-range third-party events calendar, working with the marketing team and Volunteer and Stewardship Coordinator to strategically schedule events and volunteer involvement as appropriate as well as collateral and promotional needs aligned with The Children’s Place branding
  • Work with the Vice President of Development and Communications to develop an annual signature events income and expense budget.
Outreach:
  • Serve as lead staff liaison to the Angel Board, an auxiliary board of volunteers committed to supporting The Children’s Place through fundraising, advocacy and volunteer projects.
  • Serve as lead staff liaison to the Young Ambassadors Board (YAB), formed to help connect young professionals and volunteers with The Children’s Place, its mission and programs in the community.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communication Manager and Multimedia Specialist to develop agency collaterals needed for events
  • Seek opportunities for advocacy roles and events for the agency
  • Attend monthly All-Staff meetings as well as weekly Development team meetings.
Preferred Skills/Experiences
  • Must be able to speak effectively in a group setting, demonstrate good people and communication skills and have a general understanding of events, volunteer and community engagement principles.
  • Must effectively communicate with Board, staff, funders, donors and community contacts, demonstrating sensitivity to cultural differences.
  • Competence and experience in Raisers Edge and advanced understanding of basic office applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Mastery of the English language, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated track record of accuracy, quality, timeliness, dependability and reliability.
  • Competence and ability to operate a personal computer and telephone.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality regarding records, clients, donors and sensitive data.
  • Must be highly organized, timely and effective in work duties and ability to complete assigned tasks within timelines.
  • Must possess solid administrative skills including editing, proofreading, punctuation, grammar and spelling.
  • Attention to detail and compilation of reports.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to access multiple levels of the agency’s building
  • When required, be responsible for the client’s physical safety
  • Must understand and follow building security procedures

  • Minimal Travel
Hours:
  • Office hours are M-Th 8am – 5pm. Fri – 8am – 3pm.
  • Evening/weekend hours required on occasion for events.
