Chief Development Officer

This is a hybrid role working in the office or in the community but with the option to work from home 1-2 days a week. Ideal candidate would be in St Louis but would consider Kansas City as well.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The Regional Chief Development Officer position is a regional leadership position of the Missouri-Arkansas Region of the American Red Cross. The role is responsible for sustaining and growing the current donor and base and to skillfully grow new corporate, individual and foundation donors within all areas of the region. The successful candidate will drive a strong goal and revenue-oriented culture based on market-driven targets. The position leads a Development team across the region in strategic planning, and execution of all fundraising activities for the Region. The position is a highly visible, externally facing role that will represent the Region in cultivating donors with the greatest capacity to support the organization in achieving ambitious fundraising goals. This position reports jointly to the Regional Chief Executive Officer and Divisional Fundraising Vice President. This position is responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual attainment of fundraising goals and playing a important role on the regions leadership team.
 
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD: Strategy: Develops and executes annual and multi-year Development strategies for the Region. Partners closely with the Regional CEO, Division Fundraising Vice President, Chapter Boards, Chapter Executive Directors to lead the full fundraising team in the Region to significantly grow annual revenues and collaborate on the growth of blood sponsorships and collection in the region. Develops and implements a written plan for identifying, educating, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors and blood drive sponsors across the Region. Leads focused growth in the major gifts area by working directly with top major gift prospects in coordination with the Region’s development staff. Oversees United Way retention/recapture relationship strategy. Acts as a senior leader in the Region and directs the Regional Development team with respect to strategic decisions for the organization and ensures that the Region meets all reporting requirements related to fundraising relationship management. Ensures all donor management activity and gifts is reported in Salesforce in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Fundraising Targets and Portfolio Management: Accountable for achieving or exceeding Region’s annual fundraising targets, as well as managing the department’s expense budget. The annual revenue target may increase at any time during the fiscal year due to major domestic disasters.
  • Prospect Development: Works with the fundraising team, Executive Directors and their board members, as well as other leadership volunteers and staff to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward appropriate donors. Implements programs/activities to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors at the $5,000 level or higher, with an emphasis on maximizing revenue for the American Red Cross.
  • Relationship Development: At the direction of the Regional CEO and DFVP, serves as the primary staff liaison for representatives of large corporations and foundations for solicitation, cultivation and stewardship purposes. Collaborates with national American Red Cross headquarters team members to identify and maximize fundraising opportunities. Serves as the primary staff liaison for the Board’s Philanthropy Committee. Supports orienting new Board members to their fundraising responsibilities and ensures they receive the necessary support to be successful volunteer fundraisers.
  • Staff and Volunteer Management: Responsible for oversight and Development field staff including; Director of Development, Regional Philanthropy Officers, Regional Grant Writers, and other Development staff as applicable
  • Regional Chief Development Officer Fundraising Target >$14M
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of fundraising leadership experience. Proactive Development Family leader with an established track record of increasing philanthropic revenue from diverse constituencies. Experience in the Development Family and implementation of a broad-based fundraising program including personally opening doors, cultivation and successfully closing major gifts. Significant expertise with the Region’s funding community highly desirable. Progressive experience in successful Development Family programs and knowledge of “best practices” in Development Family. Corporate and/or Business-to-Business sales leadership experience may be substituted for fundraising experience
  • Management Experience: Minimum 7 years of supervisory experience.

Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

Salary Range: $100,000 and over
