Chief Engagement & Growth Officer

Starlight is Kansas City’s oldest and largest outdoor performing arts venue, stewarding a $20M+ annual budget and a year-round staff of 45+ full-time employees alongside hundreds of seasonal team members and volunteers. The Chief Engagement & Growth Officer is a strategic, creative, and relationship-driven executive responsible for aligning and leading Starlight’s revenue-generating and audience-building functions. This role provides vision and oversight for marketing, sales, philanthropy, sponsorship, and audience engagement—ensuring that every touchpoint grows resources, builds loyalty and advocacy, and strengthens Starlight’s role in Kansas City.
 
As a member of the senior leadership team, the CEGO partners directly with the President & CEO and peers to guide organizational revenue strategy, financial sustainability, and mission delivery.

 
Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Growth
  • Develop and implement integrated strategies that maximize earned and contributed revenue across ticketing, subscriptions, memberships, philanthropy, sponsorships, and ancillary income (concessions, merchandise, etc.).
  • Set and monitor ambitious yet achievable growth goals in partnership with the CEO and Finance leadership.
  • Lead cross-functional planning and communication to align engagement and revenue priorities with organizational strategy.
 
Marketing, Sales & Brand Engagement
  • Oversee dynamic marketing and sales campaigns for Broadway, concerts, special events, and community programming in partnership with Programming team.
  • Drive brand storytelling that connects Starlight’s mission to audiences, differentiates in a competitive market, and enhances visibility.
  • Champion data-driven insights in pricing, segmentation, and audience behavior to grow loyalty, engagement, and lifetime value.
 
Philanthropy & Corporate Partnerships
  • Provide executive leadership for all contributed revenue efforts, including annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, grants, and capital campaigns.
  • Guide sponsor relations and corporate partnerships to strengthen both revenue and community impact.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy and stewardship across the organization.
 
Community Engagement & Audience Development
  • Collaborate with Programming and Guest Experience to design initiatives that increase participation and expand reach among new and diverse audiences.
  • Ensure that access strategies are central to both marketing and philanthropy practices.
  • Elevate Starlight’s presence through civic partnerships, donor visibility, and community storytelling.
 
Team Leadership & Organizational Alignment
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team spanning marketing, ticket sales, sponsorships, and philanthropy.
  • Align workstreams, messaging, and resources across departments for consistency and maximum ROI.
  • Serve as staff liaison to relevant board committees and as an executive ambassador with trustees and key stakeholders.

 
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, nonprofit management, or related field; advanced degree or CFRE preferred.
  • 10+ years of senior leadership in marketing, fundraising, or growth-focused roles, ideally in performing arts, culture, or entertainment.
  • Demonstrated success integrating earned and contributed revenue strategies.
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proven track record in setting and exceeding revenue goals across diverse income streams.
  • Expertise with CRM and donor databases (e.g., Tessitura) and strong analytical capability for data-driven decision-making.
  • Creative, strategic thinker with strong business acumen and audience-centric instincts.
  • Exceptional relationship-builder skilled in donor, partner, and community engagement.
  • Passion for the performing arts, cultural accessibility, and live entertainment as a force for connection and impact.
