Executive Director

Title: Executive Director 
Reports to: Journey to Bethany Board of Directors

Purpose Statement:  Accompanying those harmed by clergy sexual abuse through actions of healing and justice

Background:
Journey to Bethany connects the resources and gifts of the community with the healing needs of survivors, their loved ones and closest supporters, and Catholics in our diocese. To do this, we engage individuals we meet to discover their needs and / or their gifts and talents. We then connect them with our services and programs as both participants or volunteers. 

Journey to Bethany’s services include a peer support group, direct assistance with varied needs, facilitating restorative dialog, education on trauma-informed response and accompaniment, and prayer opportunities.

Journey to Bethany is an independent organization that engages the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph and connects it with survivors, their loved ones, and the greater Catholic community to bring about a pathway to healing. www.journeytobethany.org 

The Executive Director is the head administrator of JTB. This position is primarily responsible for overall operations and implementation of the mission, goals and objectives of the organization as set by the board of directors.

Key Responsibilities:

Organizational Leadership

  • Partner with the board to develop strategic initiatives 
  • Implement the goals and objectives outlined in Journey to Bethany’s strategic plan
  • Act as the public face of Journey to Bethany in the community and with donors
  Financial Oversight and Sustainability
  • Prudently manage the organization’s resources, keeping accurate financial records
  • Assist the board in further development and execution of fundraising plans
  • Develop and build relationships with private, corporate, and foundation funders
  Operations
  • Plan and execute Journey to Bethany’s programs and services
  • Manage Journey to Bethany’s database of community, volunteer and donor information.
  • Partner with the Victim Assistance Coordinator for the Diocese to implement these Journey to Bethany programs: survivor advisory group, peer support group, trauma-informed response workshop.
  • Provide administrative support for the board of directors.
  Community Engagement
  • Oversee community-building efforts (i.e. volunteer recruitment, survivor outreach, etc.)
  • Develop and implement marketing and communications plans to promote Journey to Bethany and its services and resources
  • Identify strategic relationships with other non-profits for referrals and shared services

Experience and Background
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience in ministry or nonprofit organizations
  • Demonstrated success in program development
  • Experience in fundraising including donor campaigns, events, and / or grant writing
  • Experience in operations, strategic planning and community leadership

Additional Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.  
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentations skills
  • A spirit of community and ability to make connections among stakeholders
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with commitment to results 
  • Commitment to uphold the highest standards of ethics, accountability and confidentiality
  • Practicing Catholic preferred but not required; letter of good standing from your pastor encouraged
  • Proficiency in MSOffice
  • Experience in website and email platforms (i.e. WordPress or Mailchimp) and ability to learn new applications as needed is helpful.
  • Position requires attending events on nights and weekends occasionally (approximately 1 to 2 times monthly).
  • The Executive Director will be required to complete the Protecting God’s Children training program and maintain compliance in the ongoing Virtus training program.

Compensation
This role is for an independent contractor for 20-25 hours weekly. Compensation range is between $35,000 and $40,000 commensurate with experience. This is primarily a remote position, with regular in-office collaboration with the diocesan victim assistance coordinator.
