At the Kansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (KAAP), we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive—physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. With a network of 400 members, including pediatricians, residents, and medical students, we are united in our mission to support the health and well-being of infants, children, and adolescents across Kansas.

Working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, members, and partners, the ED drives strategic priorities, ensures strong financial stewardship, and fosters impactful programs that benefit children and families statewide. The Executive Director creates and sustains a workplace culture where employees are recognized as the organization’s most valuable asset and are supported to thrive. This role offers the opportunity to shape policy awareness, strengthen the pediatric community, and amplify KAAP and KPF’s role as trusted leaders in child health.

Advocacy and External Relations

  • Oversee KAAP’s policy awareness and child health initiatives, including Advocacy at the Capitol, in partnership with the contracted policy consultant.
  • Engage members on timely child health and pediatric workforce issues by providing information, resources, and opportunities to share their professional expertise through testimony, meetings, and public education activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, partners, funders, and stakeholders to advance understanding of pediatric health priorities.
  • Represent the organizations in state and national meetings, coalitions, and public forums, ensuring KAAP and KPF are recognized as trusted, expert voices in child health.

Member Engagement and Communications

  • Develop and implement strategies to grow and retain membership.
  • Oversee KAAP committees to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Direct communications, including newsletters, website updates, and social media, with support from staff or contractors.
  • Serve as media contact and connect journalists with appropriate members for interviews.

Program and Operations Oversight

  • Supervise staff, providing direction, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Maintain and strengthen partnerships with medical, academic, community, and governmental entities.
