Facilities Manager

THE JOB OPPORTUNITY:

The Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the general maintenance and care for the 24,000 sq. ft. Charlotte Street facility at 3333 Wyoming St. in Kansas City.  They will also manage and oversee the Charlotte Street workshop and fabrication studio available to resident artists and artists engaged in programming on campus. Finally, the Charlotte Street Facilities Manager can expect to engage in the installation and deinstallation of Charlotte Street exhibitions, including managing art handling and shipping of artworks in addition to assisting with the set up and break down of performances in the Charlotte Street Black Box Theater. 

THE DESIRED CANDIDATE:

We are seeking a self-motivated, organized, and pragmatic individual with construction and building management experience. This position balances the demands of hands-on problem solving and administrative work which requires great interpersonal skills and direct communication. The ideal candidateis energized working with people, can manage multiple tasks on deadline, and is passionate about the arts.
 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Detail oriented, with the ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
  • General knowledge of and experience in building maintenance and light construction (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, lawn care, painting etc.)
  • General knowledge of and experience with exhibition installation, including art handling, art shipping, A/V installation including projection and sound, lighting etc.)
  • Ability to operate scissor lift, power tools, and other equipment on campus
  • Ability and willingness to engage in work that requires heavy lifting, working from heights, and strenuous physical activity, which are essential functions of the position
  • Skill interacting in a respectful and collaborative manner with people from a wide range of backgrounds, identities, ages, and experience
  • Administrative duties including working with contractors to obtain bids for work, payment processing, scheduling activities in conjunction with programming staff, and drafting policies for the facilities handbook and other procedures required
  • Familiarity working with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook is a plus  
  • Experience working directly with artists is a plus
  • There are no educational requirements for this position

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Manages/coordinates all caretaking of Charlotte Street’s physical facility and sub-contractors related to building maintenance, IT, security, janitorial, and landscaping
  • Proposes and manages facility budget developed with Co-Executive Directors and Finance Committee
  • Prepares presentations for quarterly Facilities Advisory Committee Meetings
  • Ensures Charlotte Street’s adherence to safe workplace practices and procedures including in operations of workshop, staff trainings, and building codes and permitting
  • Manages and maintains Charlotte Street Facilities Handbook and policies 
  • Manages inventories of gallery and workshop equipment & technology
  • Manages special projects related to Charlotte Street’s space, including small build-outs, landscaping projects, or capital improvements
  • Performs basic upkeep and repair tasks throughout building when needed/when possible, including for snow and ice control, building-wide painting, and other facilities maintenance with and without subcontractors
  • Coordinates with IT & AV contractors to maintain equipment, software, and technology planning
  • Manages general inventory and stocking of maintenance and cleaning supplies
  • Ensures completion of facility and event setup and teardown requests
  • Assists in exhibition deinstallation, installation, and lighting of art works in addition to receiving and shipping of works of art
  • Fabricates pedestals, display shelving or cases, or other needs for staging of exhibition or performances on an as needed basis
  • Collaborates with Charlotte Street Staff to coordinate and prep for events and public programs
  • Manages and maintains workshop open hours and equipment upkeep

TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT
Charlotte Street utilizes Apple computers and Microsoft Office 365. General knowledge of projection and A/V equipment needed.
 
CLASSIFICATION & PAY:
  • Full Time, Non-exempt
  • 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday workdays to cover open office hours with some weekend and evening hours required for events
  • Eligible for FTE benefits including health insurance, flex scheduling, paid vacation, sick time, and holidays
  • Salary range $50,000 - $55,000 depending on experience

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Open space office environment. This position requires some evening and weekend work; hours are flexible in order to accommodate these situations. Charlotte Street operates out of a 24,000 sq ft facility at 3333 Wyoming in the Volker neighborhood of Kansas City, MO.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION:

Charlotte Street is seeking to fill this position in late April / early May 2026. Submission of applications byMarch 31st is encouraged, though the application will remain open until an appropriate candidate is hired. All candidates will be contacted and notified of status by email. Candidates who are most competitive will beinvited to a phone interview and subsequent in person interviews (2 maximum) and will be notified of their status as it is decided. Should candidates advance to the final round of the process, they will be paid for a short practicum interview and will be asked to complete small tasks related to the position. Details about the practicum will be offered to finalists as once they advance to the last round.

Salary Range: $50,000 - 74,999
