Salary Range: $220,000 – $250,000+ (commensurate with experience)

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is seeking a strategic and collaborative Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its senior leadership team. This is a highly visible executive role with broad impact, overseeing the financial stewardship of one of the nation’s premier art museums.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the CFO leads all financial operations, including financial strategy, planning and analysis, investments, accounting, compliance, and risk management. As a member of the Strategic Leadership Group, the CFO plays a critical role in shaping institutional strategy and ensuring long-term financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead financial strategy, forecasting, and long-range planning
• Oversee accounting, reporting, audits, and internal controls
• Manage investment portfolios and financial assets
• Ensure regulatory compliance and risk management
• Partner with senior leadership and the Board on financial matters
• Support enterprise-wide decision-making and strategy

Qualifications

• CPA required. MBA a plus. 
• Senior-level financial leadership experience
• Strong background in fund accounting, investments, and compliance
• Experience in nonprofit organizations is valued, but not required
• Proven strategic thinker with strong executive presence
