Senior Manager of Finance and Accounting

The Senior Manager of Finance and Accounting (“Senior Manager”) will direct and manage the financial and accounting activities for the organization, including strategic financial operations, compliance and risk management. The Senior Manager will oversee payroll, finance and accounting for the Institute, establish financial controls, maintain bank relationships, supervise staff and prepare and interpret financial results for the Associate Vice President of Finance and Accounting (“AVP”), Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) and Board of Trustees. The Senior Manager is responsible for the fiscal activities of the Institute and will provide oversight for financial accounting systems, including accounts payable, general ledger, student billing, payroll, cash management, financial statements and tax information. The successful employee will provide excellent leadership to management and staff at all levels and will be knowledgeable in a broad range of KCAI policies and procedures in order to provide assistance to employees at all levels.
 
 Essential Functional Responsibilities:
?      Prepare and oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP for internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to balance sheets, revenue/expense statements, variance and investment analysis, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
?      Supervise day-to-day accounting functions to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial information, including but not limited to accounts payable, student billing and tuition collection, cash receipts, and fixed assets.
?      Ensure compliance with internal policies and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the operation of KCAI. 
?      Collaborate with the AVP and CFO in the development and implementation of short- and long-range financial planning, including budgeting, revenue/expense analysis, and external audits.
?      Participate in the development and implementation of the annual capital and operating budgets, as well as financial and credit policies.
?      Provide financial forecasting and analysis for special projects such as proposed capital expenditures, facility improvements and equipment purchases.
?      Prepare statistical information and reports for management, government and other agencies.
?      Oversee grant-related financial activities, ensuring the timely preparation and submission of grant reports, accurate tracking of restricted funds, and compliance with grant terms, as well as federal, state, and institutional regulations.
?      Work with outside independent legal counsel, consultants, accountants and/or auditors to assist with the successful completion of annual audits and recordkeeping, as appropriate.
?      Develop, implement and maintain adequate procedures, controls, records and reports for the business office, ensuring accuracy and financial integrity.
?      Ensure internal financial controls are established and related procedures are followed.
?      Perform other duties as assigned.

?      Accounts Payable Specialist
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
?      Strong computer software skills required; Microsoft Office Suite, general ledger, purchasing systems, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and/or related databases.  Advanced skill with Excel is preferred, including experience with pivot tables and reporting.
?      Skilled at business plan development, implementation and budget management. Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively with employees both verbally and in writing.
?      Self-directed leader who inspires engagement at all levels.
?      Excellent time management and organizational skills. Detail oriented and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Capable of effective priority setting and ability to meet deadlines.
?      Integrity above reproach and ability to maintain confidentiality. 
?      Excellent customer service skills. Ability to resolve/mediate conflicts in a constructive manner.
?      Sound business judgment and decision-making skills. Ability to assimilate information and draw appropriate conclusions.
?      Works independently within a team environment and to effectively interact with all levels of KCAI management, staff, faculty, students, external agencies, and vendors.
?      Strong communication, writing organization, presentation style and public relations skills are imperative.
?      Knowledge of city, state and federal laws impacting the Institute
 
Required Experience/Education:
?      Seven years of progressive accounting/finance and a deep disciplinary knowledge of all major accounting functions (payroll, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, etc.)
?      Experience with strategic planning, finance and budgeting, forecasting, broad business knowledge and acumen and a keen sensitivity to risk management.
?      Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting
 
Preferred Experience/Education:
?      Master’s degree in Finance/Accounting and/or CPA
?      Experience with a not-for-profit organization and/or higher education environment
?      Experience with endowments, temporarily restricted fund accounting, and compliance with federal grant reporting requirements.
