NATURE OF WORK:

The Grants & Social Media Manager is a hybrid position that leads all aspects of foundation and corporate grant fundraising and oversees the organization’s social media presence. The primary focus of the role is to manage a grant portfolio exceeding $1 million, from prospect research and application development to compliance and reporting. Additionally, this role develops and executes digital strategies to enhance visibility and engagement across key social media platforms. The position reports to the Director of Donor Relations and serves as a critical voice in advancing the VFW Foundation’s mission through both funding and digital storytelling.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grants Management (Majority Function):

  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals to foundations and corporate partners.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of grant programs—from identification and solicitation to implementation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Develop personalized grant support and guidance for VFW Posts nationwide.
  • Track grant budgets, expenditures, deliverables, and outcomes.
  • Maintain grant records and reporting schedules; ensure compliance with grantor requirements.
  • Lead VFW Post fundraising workshops and provide technical assistance at national events.
  • Conduct prospect research using databases like Foundation Directory Online and Bloomerang; generate detailed profiles and strategy recommendations.

Social Media & Digital Engagement:

  • Develop and implement a results-driven social media strategy aligned with fundraising and outreach goals.
  • Create, schedule, and publish compelling content across platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Produce live content at events and support multimedia storytelling around VFW Foundation activities.
  • Monitor analytics and audience insights; produce reports on campaign performance and engagement metrics.
  • Coordinate with internal marketing and communications teams to ensure unified brand messaging.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support the mission and objectives of the VFW Foundation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Independent judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong storytelling and editing proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, write, and manage complex grant proposals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Expertise in social media platforms and tools; ability to design and schedule compelling digital content.
  • Familiarity with donor and grant research tools such as Foundation Directory Online and Bloomerang.
  • Ability to analyze data, track results, and communicate outcomes effectively.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Competence in using statistics and narrative to communicate impact.
  • Knowledge of VFW structure and mission preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in communications, creative writing, journalism, or nonprofit management—or a minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Veteran status is a plus.

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Grants & Social Media Manager is a dual-role position responsible for leading the VFW Foundation’s foundation and corporate grant initiatives—managing a grant portfolio exceeding $1 million—and for overseeing the organization’s social media strategy to increase engagement and visibility. This role encompasses the full grant lifecycle from research and application to compliance and reporting, while also developing and executing compelling digital content across multiple platforms. Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, the manager plays a key role in fundraising, digital storytelling, and advancing the VFW Foundation’s mission.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Fast-paced multi-tasking office environment with emphasis on individuals who value contributing to team performance.
  • Extensive computer operation and communication with internal/external constituencies.
  • Travel to Annual VFW National Convention, other specialized training, grant solicitations and select corporate partner functions required, which are most often outside of normal business hours and the Monday–Friday work week.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for leading VFW Foundation grant/fundraising program solicitations.
  • Develops relationships with VFW members and non-members, prospects, donors, corporate and foundation representatives, VFW staff, Departments, Districts and Posts.
  • Oversees total grant program process including correspondence, regular communication with grantors as well as data collection to validate the effectiveness of grants received.
  • Develops, coordinates, and schedules engaging social media content that aligns with fundraising campaigns and elevates the visibility of VFW Foundation programs.

The VFW Foundation offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Relocation allowance is not available.

Salary Range: $50,000 - 74,999
