Position Summary:
The Director of Human Resources serves as the organization’s strategic leader for the People pillar of the strategic plan, translating organizational priorities into people strategies that strengthen culture, workforce capability, engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness. This role provides strategic partnership to the Executive Leadership Team while maintaining hands-on leadership and accountability for the day-to-day operations and delivery of all Human Resources functions for nearly 400 team members who provide hospice, palliative care and grief support services in both field-based and inpatient facilities.
The Director leads the development and execution of comprehensive HR strategies, policies, programs, and practices that support the organization’s mission, values, culture, and business objectives. The Director ensures compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations while balancing long-term workforce strategy with responsive, practical solutions to the organization’s day-to-day people needs.
The Director collaborates closely with the Executive Leadership Team and leaders across the organization to foster a people-centered culture, strengthen leadership effectiveness, develop and retain talent, and ensure the organization has the people, capabilities, and environment necessary to achieve its strategic priorities. This position serves as both a strategic thought partner and operational leader, connecting the organization’s People strategy to consistent and effective HR practices throughout the employee lifecycle.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field, required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional human resources experience required, including experience performing advanced and complex human resources functions in areas such as employee relations, recruitment and talent management, compensation, regulatory compliance, and other related human resources functions.
- Experience providing strategic human resources guidance and consultation to organizational leadership required.
- Prior human resources experience in a healthcare setting, including medical, hospital, hospice, long-term care, or other healthcare-related environments, preferred.
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic direction, coaching, performance management, workload coordination, and professional development for experienced human resources staff, required.
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, regulations, human resources best practices, and other applicable compliance requirements, required.
- Prior experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), and workforce analytics, required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, required.
- Professional certification through SHRM (SHRM-SCP) and/or HRCI (SPHR), preferred.
- Work is performed throughout the Kansas City Metropolitan area and at all KCH&PC locations as such, must have access to reliable transportation.
